60k ain't cheap. Dale, you say this is for one race? Out of curiousity, would this include NRE for other races, or just one race?

-Parsko

PS- Many of us know we have been having these conversations about a billion times before, but how far would 60k go in a more visible series? Sorry if this appears to be a hijak, but I'm curious...

The question was:
"As a matter of interest only, in your professional opinion how much funding would be required to get a Husaberg under the lights at the daytona short track next march?"

If you truly are looking for a shot to "Win" Daytona from scratch as opposed to simply showing up $60K is a bargain. 8O

What do you suppose Troy Lee and / or KTM spend on a weekend of "serious" (ie Top Level) Motard racing?

I reiterate:
"You get what you pay for!"

Kind Regards,
Dale

Honestly have NO clue what the cost of racing is on bikes. I could only imagine what he price per season for moto-X would be. I know my buddy, who has around $25k invested in a Club Ford (formula ford) car, says its AT least $1000 per race, and he does 5-10/year depending on repairs. And this is amatuer racing. Bottom line, many don't realize simply how much it costs to get into racing at any level.

How many Husabergs would one need to sell to sponser.........

Such is akin to the rhetorical question "Which came first the chicken or the egg?" :D

Based on the competition what do you suppose is a realisitic budget to win Daytona? Anyone? :D

Never afraid to take a shot:
Carrot for a top rider=$12,000.
Three engines.........=$20,000
Two rolling chassis...=$12,000.
Supply of consumables(tires,brakes,chains etc)$2500.
Licences and entry fees...$600.
Truck/cargo van rental to move bikes and equipment to races in this case Calif to Florida incl fuel.................$4000.
Even though Dale is a nice guy I am sure,he has a need to generate income...so 200hr x $60.=12,000. plus expenses to,during and returning from Daytona($2200.) and at least $2000 for a second support person.
Could possibly chinch on a spare engine and save$6000.
Even then a conservative estimate for one race is $ 57,300

Thank You!

Full season might look like this?: 15 national races

Services of potential winner $75,000 plus 50/50 split on purses
Equipment cost initial...........$35,000
Lease race vehicle 12 mths...$16,000.
race bike consumables..........$20,000
licence and entry fees $5,000
Race tech and support crew...$75,000
Travel expenses...................$30,000
Race eqiup development and maintainance...$10,000
Total....$266,000.

Assume a top ten finish in points.
Revenue:4 wins@10,000=$40,000 x.5=$20,000.
2 2nd @6,000=$12,000 x.5 =$6,000
2 3rd @4,000=$8,000 x.5=$4,000
3 other purse paying positions $6,000.x.5=$3,000.
Total =$33,000.
Salvage value of used race equipment=$25,000
Short fall required from sponsors=$208,000.
Since a full page add in a major magazine costs at least $10,000 mth or $100,000 a year it would appear that sponsoring a race team would be money well invested.
It would also follow that in fact this sponsor investment capital or lack of is the determining factor for the growth and success of professional motorsport.
......just in case anyone has read this far,all the above is just a guess.

Hi Nsman,
I have the working budget of a couple GNC regulars on Excel. To run an XR 750 program for an entire season be prepared to spend in excess of $200,000.000.

A concurrent singles effort adds another $100,000.00.

Sincerely,
Dale
