Land Speed Record Broken

Glad he made it.

I will still advise seeing The World's Fastest Indian, one of those great unknown movies.

I have to agree. Anthony Hopkins does such a great job, you forget your watching an actor within 10 seconds.

In The Books

Chris's land speed record has held up. He is the fastest man on two wheels.

A BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO CHRIS.

RE: In The Books

Indeed, quite an achievement for Chris Carr and his crew.I really thought he would be the first to reach to 10 second mile.He must be pumped!Anyone remember who was the last Harley dirt tracker to break a world record at bonneville.
If my memory serves it would be 40 years ago this week and his initials are the same as mine.

RE: Re: RE: In The Books

As soon as I finished that last post I knew someone was going to suggest it was Cal Rayborn. Not to say that the answer is incorrect.Although Cal was a dirt tracker ,as most all were in the days when the AMA had a single National Champion,he is not remembered as one today as his greastest triumphs were on the tarmac.
You made me take a trip to my library to veryify my info and I was incorrect that the initials were the same as mine, but the world land speed record I was refering to was the one set by George Roeder in 1966(opps 65) at Bonneville on a 250 Aermacchi(HD) at 176.817 mph.
The error on my part was I could remember the HD ad in the Dec 1966 cycle world mag of Bart Markel as the new 1966 AMA #1 and there is a inset of the bonnville record and I assumed(incorrectly) it was Bart who set the record.

I see there is an interesting difference in the speed record posted in the AMA motorcycle museum records and the original ad in the mag in front of me from dec 1966.The magazine ad says that the speed record was 176.817 for the flying mile not 177.225 as in the archives. That figure was for the flying kilometre.
It is a shame that both Cal and George are not alive today to congratulate Chris Carr.It would have make quite a photo a bonneville today, dont you think?.
This record may be just the boost Chris needs as he will have his hands full this weekend in Columbus....wish I was going.

Chris is a friend of many years. Such being said I hope to see Varnes, Johnson and Murphree on the box this weekend. :D

Bruce, it's coming and the horse is black. Go Varnes and Johnson.

Dale

So, Dale, when do we build a 2x650cc streamlined Husaberg and take it to Bonneville?

I already asked this but how fast would it go according to you with a total weight (pilot, bike, gas) of 500 lbs?

It's a "what if", I am not seriously thinking about doing it.

OK, I'll do it. Just stop yelling @ me.

Based on the above picture I believe a "RockyMt" Pikes Peak Husaberg will be my next project. 8O

Dale

Can't wait to see that, Dale :D

In the meantime, I hit Wikipedia and realized that Chris was not on there.

I already created Malcolm Smith and Mert Lawwill's articles there, so I just put this together real quick:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Carr ... cyclist%29

I can put a photo but I need to receive authorization from the author or Chris.

I will update the page if and when the record is broken.

Also, Dale, there is no dirt track article. The link currently goes to a speedway article. I can fix that if I can find some good resources, like short definition and also photos I can use.
