yep! tis true..

A husaberg 501/600 headgasket are it appears identical, therefore the heads seem interchangable. the waterpump housing is far bigger.

for the 2001-2008 engines they made the cam chain tunnel back out the engine about 20mm where the CCT housing is (and up). the husaberg cylinder studs are 2mm further apart in line with the engine and across the engine.

so if you can't find a head for that old 400-501-600 you know where now!

This is some very interesting news to me.
I am in need of a cylinder head as mine is in extra time of sudden death (as they say in football).

My cylinder and piston are already from a 525 KTM and my bike is a 2000 FC501
I have to add that the cylinder is also in not so good shape, so I am in search for the following:

1. Cylinder Head
2. Cylinder (KTM 525 '03 or Husa 501 '00)
3. Piston (only if the cylinder is changed to the husaberg one)

Of course, any other suggestions are more than welcome.

Is there anywhere I can get OEM parts and prices?

your head can be repaired easily enough. pistons are still available. I have a 501 barrel here I hope. will check on Monday.

so are you saying that you already use a 525 barrel?

Yes, my cylinder barrel is from a 525 KTM and so is the piston.

I am not quite sure that my cylinder head can be repaired, the valves do not sit on the sockets properly when closed and the head has been repaired previously and also it has some cracks in a couple of places around the valves

I am going to ask tomorrow the local husaberg dealer for a new cylinder head, but my guess is that the price he is going to ask for will be more expensive than buying the same thing and have it delivered from almost any other husaberg dealer abroad

The alternative would be to change the whole lot (from cylinder barel upwards) to the 525 KTM parts. Part availability would be possibly better, but don't know if the '03 SX/EXC was a more reliable motor than the 2000 FC/FE. In addition to this, changing everything to the KTM would be considerably more expensive

I love my berg and I want it running again soon and I want to make sure that I do things right

Thanks for helping Taffy

hehe

That's a first, the Greek dealer is a lot cheaper than a UK dealer as far as the head is concerned.

Have asked KTM for a 525 cylinder, it comes bundled with the piston, I will ask Husaberg for the stock cylinder and piston and if the price is similar, I will go for the KTM cylinder&piston/Husaberg cylinder head configuration.

I have to say, I love my FC525

LOL

The Husaberg cylinder & piston are much more expensive than the 525 cylinder & piston, so I will keep my current configuration, which is Husaberg 501 engine with a 525 KTM cylinder and piston.

So just to clarify, a KTM 525 cylinder and head will bolt directly to a Husaberg bottom end? Exhaust, intake, decomp, etc all bolt up and work correctly? Sounds exciting 8)

if you read the opening statement you'll see that my statement has been modified as we go. ever heard the hans christian andersson tail: about the king and his 'fine' clothes.......

i know for a fact that the cylinder and piston bolt on directly, don't know the implications of the head being added in the configuration, it will bolt on OK on the cylinder and engine, don't know what mods may be required for it to work properly

Well hopefully once mine is back to life ill be able to get my hands dirty and confirm :)

Have an update regarding the crossbreed of KTM cylinder/piston on a husaberg head.

It looks like the piston has played some part in damaging the head on the bike, but to be honest I am not quite sure if this is a f@ck up from the previous owner or the result of an abomination

I am now in Sweden and will update once back to Greece.
