knight riding kawasaki at snowshoe gncc

Kawasaki pays 10,000 dollars in contingency for a GNCC win in the pro class.

is this on top of the $10,000 for a win they mention on the gncc website or is it the same thing?

think Mr knight could do with the $ just now plus he's got a point to prove.

he's either goin to completly smoke everyone or crash his brains out / destroy the bike, cant see him settling for anything less.

should be interesting.

there is a rumour that he's going to ride the welsh 2 day enduro on thursday and friday then fly out for the gncc. if he does think it will be a mistake.

The contingency 10 grand is on top of whatever the series win pays. It is right from Kawasaki.

Pretty good way for a fast guy between contracts to pick up some spending money. The terrain at Snowshoe is the most extreme of any of the GNCC races and plays right into Knight's strengths as a rider.

Sometimes timing is everything. Look for a win by the big guy.

KTM should import Taddy into the series for this one race just to be spiteful. :D Maybe Knighter would ghost his new green bike off the side of the mountain in West Virginia, a la the Endurocross two years ago. 8O

does anyone actually know what was wrong

http://www.cyclenews.com/files/news_art ... side_3.jpg

look at how far forward that front wheel is kicked out? like something out of the 70's? i think he couldn't trust the front end. that would explain the longer shock on the rear?

anyway, am i the only one that gets annoyed whilst reading an interview when they never actually SAY what was wrong wirrit!

regards

Taffy

Do you think he could have got a nice golden handshake as long as he doesn't slate the bike?

Does anyone know what his "behaviour" was in Portugal that BMW said didn't help?

basically there isnt anything wrong with it for 99.9% of riders.

photos of the bike are a bit decieving as the forks look to be kicked out further than the are due to lack of engine.

it just happens if you happen to be a 6' 2" 250lb gorilla who also happens to be one of the fastest riders in the world then there's some handling issues, plus i dont think bmw where all that keen to make the required changes to get it sorted as they would be building a 1 off bike for knighter which wouldnt be seeing probuction.

as for his "behaviour in portugal" i did hear that at one event he threw the bike to the ground and started using some unsavioury words towards it. perhaps it was this incident or something similar.

interview with knighter and bmw

just for those to compare with husaberg

bmw g 450 x ;
head angle is 61.8 (degrees)
Wheelbase (in): 58
Rake (degrees): 28.2
Trail (in): 4.7

apparently the bmw team bikes are using rear springs that were alot softer than ktms and the fork springs were alot stiffer.

From the rumor mill,

The BMW is not even close to stock. Yes, there maybe a few things that they "won't" change per the cycle news article. But, there are A LOT of things they have changed, a lot.

Can't say that I blame the man from opting out, why keep pushing on and end up hurting yourself b/c the bike isn't up to that level.

I'd say him giving up the money, and walking away for his desire to win speaks volumes for his character. Let's see how the man does at the snowshoe GNCC. And, let's see what Juha does at the end of the year.

The VAST (ok, all) majority of feedback and tests were luke warm at best and down right hostile at worst about the Beemer. Jimmy Lewis said it had the worst front fork set up of any bike he'd ever ridden. Riders of different skill levels have mostly disliked the bike for competitive racing.

I appreciate all motorcycles, especially ones that work really well, and certainly don't have it out for BMW or any other brand. However, I think it is a true statement that BMW missed the mark, and by a wide margin, as far as producing a race-competitive motorcycle. In their defense, they jumped into the middle of a class of bikes that are coming up on a full decade of development, by all manufacturers both Japanese and European.

I was one of those who thought Knighter would work through any development issues and use his talent to win on the BMW. Oops, my bad.

Look for Knight to win the GNCC at Snowshoe this weekend and further embarass BMW.

And maybe come out of it with a Kawi contract for next year, or the rest of the year. With their main riders sidelined in the US MX series, I'm sure Kawi would love to have some wins in a pro series some where. I need to mention here that Dietrich has really stepped by finishing in the top 5 at the last couple of MX races.

One top five and a couple solid finishes just outside the top five. He held off Reed for several laps a few weeks ago. Looking forward to the Colorado round on Speed tonight. I went to Thunder Valley a few years ago when the Nationals first came back, and that track gets really rough. Great track to spectate at.

Knight's Kawasaki is said to be sporting WP suspension, including linkage!

Very interesting.
