keihin fcr 41mm with jd kit problems

Chas, do you know which yamaha has a 41mm keihin as I phoned the local store and they can only search by bike model and year.

Thanks

have you removed the float chamber and put the float in the down possition so the float valve is open then put ur mouth on the fuel line... while blowing, air should pass through and then gently move the float so the float valve reaches its closed posstion if the air stops then ur floats need ajustin as the float is reaching the top and not closing the valve when the chamber is full with fuel, or they dont float no more so check for cracks ect

The float level should be OK unless someone has altered it.
Read somewhere it can be difficult to get right so you don`t wont to mess with that.
I vote for the test above first done the same myself, you should be able to stop the air flow by gently
moving the float upwards, seating the valve.

Offhand, I don't know. The WR 450's use the 39 mm FCR carb. You might check to see what carb is used in the YZ 450 .

I installed a brand new float needle and seat and also the o ring; still no change. So that means I got to adjust the float. Do I adjust the float by bending the tang? I'm assuming that's the only way to do it.

Please let me know if there are any tricks.

Thanks

yes thats the way i do it, but be sure to take measurements first as to were it sits in the closed possition, to do this take float chamber off turn carb upsidedown measure the distance from (carb seam) (chamber seam) [or a solid refrance point a jet or somethin] to the float, bend it a little then measure it again say maybe 2mm difference, remeber when carb is upsidedowm float need to sit higher than the 1st measurement....put together n c if it stops leakin fuel.

Got er fixed! It turns out that when I first pulled the float bowl off (due to JD sending a leak jet that the berg doesn't even take!) I bent the overflow needle that is fixed to the bottom of the bowl, and that was binding with the floats. So yesterday I took the carb out and could then see that the float wasn't moving at all, then I could also see that the float overflow needle was touching.

Anyways, got er back together and she's all good! Off to the trails!

Thanks for all the comments.

Now I can finally see how well the jet kit works!

Not to bring up old post but,

I know you said the carb was leaking out the vent hoses, but was it also leaking/ overflowing out of the intake- say into the motor-? I ask becuase I'm having an overflowing problem also, except mine is leaking right out of the carb and into the motor.

Same story as you- tore it apart and looked at float, etc.. did a bench test with float bowl off, everything worked fine. wondering if my float is touching the needle as well, hence it being stuck open. Just not sure if it would effect were it leaks from when overflowed.

Thanks Kyle.

it should not overflow into the engine unless the overflow pipe was blocked or somethin, ur float must not be shutting the fuel off when the carb fills up, have u done the blow test down the fuel pipe when the valve is in the shut possition to c if u can blow air in

Hey, I installed the jd kit for low elevation and now my 41mm keihin is overflowing like crazy when I turn on the fuel...any suggestions?

have you a Mk1 carb? the one with a rod on the right underneath a rubber gaitor?

regards

Taffy
