just checked my valves and the exhaust were tight. but in order to adjust them, we only had a feeler gauge for .010 and .015. although the manual says the valves should be at .012, we set them at .015. i'm in the dominican republic and i can't just run down to a motorcycle shop or auto-parts store and buy a feeler gauge. my question is this: Does it make much of a difference at .015 or should i order a feeler guage from the USA and re-do the valves again? Does it warrant re-doing them or should i just leave them the way they are at .015?

thanks, frank

Ive always set mine at 5.5 thou as recommended by my dealer

thats just under 0.14mm

if you set them a tiny bit tighter than usual but still use the 0.15mm feeller guage they will be about 0.135 to 0.14

Ive have always set my clearances for Husaberg and KTM RFS at 6 thou .015, they will not rattle at set this and they will always tighten up especially inlets. KTM RFS eat inlet valves Husaberg not as bad although its the same valve.
save yourself some time by using .015.

When i do a head and valve service and recut/regrind i will set inlet at 7 thou .018, exhaust a tight 7 or loose 6 let them rattle a bit and after some engine operation they will settle in at 6 thou or thereabouts. If you go racing after a rebuild you cant stop midrace to do clearances.
After you do hundreds and hundreds of these for yourself and customers you learn the shortcuts.
Checking valve clearance is a pain in the butt. i used to test myself just taking the caps of and check them by feel and then getting my other mechanic to check it is possible to do it this way but you need to do a few services a day to learn.
