There is a meeting this Saturday and I plan on attending. I hope all of you that are in the area can attend as well.
It is at the Doubletree in Sacramento at 9am. Some of the people on this OHV commission are
staunch environmentalists, and are dead set on the demise of our sport. They pretty much dictate
where the OHV money goes, and what it is spent on. Having such people on an OHV board is like
having David Duke or some other Klansman on the board of the United ***** College Fund. These
crafty, sneaky people are destroying us from within, at the top levels of our state government.

Here is the public notice of the meeting

The following is an an insightful write up about this meeting and commission, from Bill Dart, land
use director for ORBA (orbanet.org), and former president of the Blue Ribbon Coalition
(sharetrails.org).

"This would be a good meeting for anyone that wants to see what the heck is going on with the OHV
Commission, as one of the agenda items is to take public input on recommendations on program
improvements and specific porject needs. I would urge everyone that attends to get up and demand
more money be allocated to trail maintenance to protect the trails we have now, and demand that
need opportuntiies be provided to accommodate the huge growth in our sport.

Here is how things work. Anyone can sign up to provide input on any item on the agenda, but you do
have to say which items you will be speaking to. This is on a sign up form for agenda items that
will be on a table as you come into the room. You will be called to speak as the itme is being
discussed. There is a separate form to sign up for public comments during the 11 AM Public Comment
period. This is your chance to talk about anything that is NOT on the agenda. Each person is
allowed 2 minutes as an individual or 4 minutes as an organization each time they are called to
the podium. Keep in mind that a "club" is an organization and gets 4 minutes, and I think that
most of you belong to some kind of club or other organization don't you?

One of the agenda items is a discussion of the recent audit of the program, where the Commission
was rightly criticized. Here is your chance to pile on the Commission. If you want some
background, you can read a summary of the auidt at this link:
http://www.bsa.ca.gov/pdfs/reports/2006-406.pdf Go to page 271 for the OHV audit.

I have to warn you that you will be sickened by what you see. The Commission is not only
controlled by a radical anti-OHV Majority that is bent on spending our money in ways to reduce
opportunitiy or to let problems fester to the point closures are called for, they are in an
outright WAR with the OHV Division staff. Besides gutting the grants to the FS and BLM last month,
they turned down all of the proposals for new faciltiies at the SVRA's, something that has never
happened before, and they are opnely attacking Deputy Director Daphne Greene because she dares to
challeneg their rogue behavior.

As for what is being done about the Commission, stay tuned for a Press Release from ORBA in the
very near future about the legal action we are taking."

Good luck, Californians! Your State is were all sorts of restrictive laws are tested first and then it starts spreading...
