I don't know what to do!

Hi all (again!),

Right as you probably know by now I am looking to sell my bike but I have decided as I can't bring myself to break it I am going to get it running right! Even if I no longer have a job!
I picked it up today from the guys who were going to do the jetting and they said it developed a problem when it was hot it jus cut out! I was thinking, with a little help from DaleEO, that it was the stator!
I have got it home and had a play and I'm not so sure anymore!

When I kicked it into life I used the choke and it started first kick and pretty easily! it idled fine if not slightly high but that how i like it! I let it warm up and it seemed ok but when i tried to ride it it gave up suddenly! I could pull away and as soon as I tried to accelerate it just died... sometimes completely and other times, if I eased off quickly enough, I could keep it running!
I let it idle for quite a while, prob 5 minutes, and all seemed good until I revved it and then it would die! It really felt like it wasn't getting enough fuel and when I tried to ride it it went better with the choke on, but it was still very unrideable!

Does this still sound like the stator? I thought maybe if it was packing up whether the spark wasn't strong enough and just got blown out when I give it some throttle! Could that be a theory? I would like to jus throw more money at it but as I have been made redundant I can't really rely on 'trail and error' as I just can't afford it!

It pops and bangs a fair bit on overrun if that gives anyone any thoughts!

Please somebody help before I jump off the nearest building!! (joke)

Regards
Ben

could be your float level. try reading this and see what it might be?

if i remember rightly, i had a torrid time getting the ignition timing right, you might remember better than me. check the ignition timing through the black hole in the ignition cover. having tested many more ignitions since yours i now set pretty much all of them so that the white stator line is 1-2mm to the left of centre of the hole and then forget the strobe.

just a chance.....

RE: I don

This may be too obvious, but are you sure your main jet is not clogged? I recently heard a story of some mechanic that had used a liquid gasket on the floatbowl. Guess where the goop went?

RE: I don

Sounds like a fuel starvation problem to me.
I'm gunna assume that it's all nice and clean.
Check that the floats and needle/seat valve are working properly.
You can sometimes miss 1 of the floats when putting the bowl back on.
I had all sorts of dramas trying to get the float level right on mine.
Don't believe what you read about setting the float arms parallel to the carb body.
Also check that the vent tubes aren't blocked and for any air leaks on the intake.

RE: I don

Check that your mainjet hasn't fallen out and sitting in the bottom of the carby bowl, had a run of these lately with the same symptom.

and check that the fuel runs freely from the taps & check the fuelfilter at inlet of carb ??

Sparkplug ok ??

Obvious stuff, but you never know.
