Husaberg SEM stator & coil compatibility w/ '88 Husky TE

Does anyone know if Husaberg SEM ignition/coil/stator can be installed on a 1988 Husqvarna TE 510 4-stroke liquid cooled enduro?

Replacement parts through Husqvarna/Cagiva have been discontinued. Husaberg's US distributer tells me that Husaberg SEM parts are still avilable, but was not sure about compatibility.

The bike was running OK, then it sat for a week and would not start again. I am not getting spark. The headlight illuminates when I attempt to kick-start the bike.

The fly wheel on my bike says SEM. The coil (CDI?) unit is attached with two bolts to the frame under the gas tank near the steering stem. It has four wires coming out of the front end (black, red, green and orange) with the spark plug wire emerging from the rear. The unit is clad in red plastic.

If it is any help, the original technical data sheet for my TE 510 contains the following information:

Displacement 503 cc

Bore/Stroke 91.5/76.5 mm

Compression Ratio 10:1

Electrical System SEM

Type CDI

Ignition Advance 33 degrees

Ignition Advance

on Piston before TDC 8.0 mm

Ignition Advance

on Flywheel before TDC 39.9 mm

AC generator 70+70 W

Any help would be much appreciated.

I played silly buggers with a SEM stator off a '92 TE 350 Husky a while back. It was identical to the '94 TE610. They look the same as the Husaberg ones, but I'm fairly sure they have an extra wire going to the CDI. I still have a the crook '92 TE 350 one at home if you need me to check anything. There was a thread going earlier on this year that discussed rewinding the 'berg stators & I added some bits about the Husky stators there. Here it is.

I'm fairly sure that KTM LC4 stators work on the TE Huskies, at least the '92 onwards anyway. The base plates are different so you have to swap them over, but the winding bits are the same. My cousin used an LC4 stator on his '94 TE610 for several years.

You can indeed use a Husaberg stator on the Husqvarna, however, you will need to alter the mounting hole pattern slightly.

Kind Regards,
Dale

Gentlemen,

Thank you very much for the prompt and helpful responses. I spoke with Mel at KTM/Husqvarna of Carson City. What a great guy. He did indeed know all about this. He says he uses KTM parts.
