Hello People!

I have been working on my New husaberg fe 400 2000 for some months now. Its soon time for the road and hopefully it Will withstand some commuting. I have some minor problems though
I
1. The electrical start wont start the bike when its cold. Is this normal? Starts pretty easy on the kickstart. Are you guys using the manual decomp when starting it?

2. I need a new kickstand. I want a nice eloxated one. Are these universal? Will ktm stands fit?

3. When cold starting it revs pretty high on the choke. It has to be turned of within 1 second. Could this be due to a false air problem? When running without choke it runs perfect.

4. Im running on wide supermoto ktm warp wheels. Rear rim is too wide and is rubbing against chain Just barely when the rim is sentered in the rear swingarm. Have anyone tried to offset the rim Just a touch towards the brake side?

5. The fuel valve thingy is leaking on both sides when its in on and reserve position. I have cleaned it and the rubber seal looks good? Is this a common pproblem?

6. I have heard That these bikes dont like commuting at all. It gets too hot when riding highways and staying still in ques. Could a radiator fan be a solution?

Cheers :D

As far as rads go, there are some magical fluids out there that claim to reduce temps by 10 deg C. Look for engine ice. Don't know how well it works, but for a few dollars more, might be worth it.

Also, fans are pretty simple to fit.

I don't know how do you get these overheat in a highway.
Standing still a radiator fan can help.

If your jetting is lean you'll have more problems with heat.

1) A 2000 400 should start very easy on the button. Are you sure its not a 2001 (post some pictures)

2) No

3) It should run faster with the choke on and cold. Leave it on until the bike warms and idles down. Then turn the choke off.

4) ?

5) Its not a common issue. At least not one that has been discussed much. Order a new one from Taffmeisters.

6) They don't make good commuters for a few reasons but first and foremost they only hold a quart of oil. Some with the first gen motor, that has no sight glass to check the oil, have run low on oil and fried the motor. Gen 1 motors use a bit of oil. Check the level before every ride.

The chain hitting the tire. Check/replace chain guides first before messing with the rim. Both 570FE & 570FS had the same problem replaced the front chain guides this fixed it.

Thanks for replies. I Will check the jetting. Spark plug looks Black, i think its on the rich side rather than lean. problem with the choke is That it revs too much sounds like 4000 rpm. Not the best start for a cold engine? There is no glas to check Oil level. I Will keep an eye on the Oil level. Regarding the chain guide I cant see how the chain guide Will move the chain in any direction? The chain guides is on the bottom. The chain hits on the top. Where the chain goes straight from the sprocket to sprocket when tensioned.

ouch! well you have picked a really sweet little old lady to ride! she wants here pension not bondage and a whipping session :giggle:

does it start on the button warm? you don't say? does it 'miss' and then when warm does it 'catch' and turn the engine?

2. I need a new kickstand. I want a nice eloxated one. Are these universal? Will ktm stands fit?

3. When cold starting it revs pretty high on the choke. It has to be turned ofF within 1 second. Could this be due to a false air problem? When running without choke it runs perfect.
no, it is probably the perfect jet! perfect fuel to air. but ve have vays of making it vorse for you!

4. Im running on wide supermoto ktm warp wheels. Rear rim is too wide and is rubbing against chain Just barely when the rim is sentered in the rear swingarm. Have anyone tried to offset the rim just a touch towards the brake side?
Na! just get a Husqvarna front sprocket. it is 11mm wide and not 12mm. fit it with a 1mm washer behind it. this will push the chain out 1mm. you can go further if you want. rear sprocket will cope with 2-3mm like this or move that out as well....

5. The fuel "TAP" is leaking on both sides when its in on and reserve position. I have cleaned it and the rubber seal looks good? Is this a common problem?
no they are usually quite good.

6. I have heard That these bikes dont like commuting at all. It gets too hot when riding highways and staying still in ques. Could a radiator fan be a solution?

no real need for a fan, it should be OK, obviously traffic after getting hot won't help. it is more a case of the engine being made 'marginally'. there is only 1 litre of oil in it. minimum cooling etc. minimum lubrication even!

they suffer from the carb wearing as they get older. luckily most parts can be replaced. I do a kit called a spruce up kit. look at getting what are called DVSK fitted sometime.

I did a rebuild for Uno in Voss and made it a 426 and put the bigger valve 501 head on it. then I re-jetted the carb. he reckoned it was the sweetest off-road bike he ever road!

Taffy

The starter cranks the engine around pretty well. It seems like its not getting enough rpms or power to start the engine when its cold tough. when the bike is warm it starts easier, therefore the electric starts is cranking enough to start it when its hot.

regarding the choke revving. what do you mean Taffy? making it worse? haha. Is it ok to let the engine rev to like 4000rpm when cold? seems unsafe.

I think the carb has been replaced by previous owner.

looking forward to ride this crazy bike :)

Here are some pictures of the bike. I have painted the frame, wheels, handlebar and rear shock. Camera wont pick up the true marine blue colour.
