Except for the weight. In Supercross and in freestyle, 2 strokes seem to still have an edge, although Reed announced that he will be riding a 4-stroke.

I don't see FMXers riding 4 strokes for a while, until they weigh about the same as 2 strokes, which may happen.

What could be done to considerably reduce the weight of the 4 strokes? New alloy? New technologies?

I just checked on the Honda web site, the CRF450R weighs in at 218.5 lb dry.

The CR250 weighs in at 213.0 lb dry.

Thats 5.5 pounds difference, or 2.6 % of the total bike weight.

Any materials technology you apply to the 4-stroke to try to trim that much from it will also be able to be applied to the 2-stroke so that part of the race would be a tie. There would still be a 5.5 pound diffeerence?

How much does the 4-stroke valve train weigh?

How much can you lower the inertial of the 4-stroke crank and still keep it running for MX?

I personally think the 2-stroke will just die out or be legislated out by 2008 - 2010.

very interesting. I know husaberg took legal action against the highlander as I recall. I was interested in importing the bikes, or at least thinking about it. I wonder if things have changed a lot and the highlander is a gower. Given the heritage and the new knowledge it could be very interesting.

Is this a lead into something? When are they hitting the US shores?
