Hi
I´m buying a new bike, have had 450 exc 2003 and 501 FORCE 2005.
I loved both bikes, the BERG more fun, the KTM more reliable.
Now i want a 450 again BERG or KTM. Have rode a FE 550 2005, and i think its a little to powerfull for me. But i´ve heard that the BERG 450 lacks power?? So how do you look on these to bikes? Power, suspension, reliability, weight, overall etc.???

think the berg is a couple of hp down on an exc 450 but not much.
ktm is only 38-39 hp.

will you really miss 1 or 2 hp?

got to agree life with ktms was easier than bergs. starting being the main thing but i wouldn't go back to ktm, simply because like to be on somthing different to the rest of the pack and have found that 99% of the time when pushing on i'm in charge of the bike rather than the bike telling me where its going.
found that the ktms whilst fast steering on a test did get a bit of a handful when pushing on over the going.

have a go on both.

I won't say anything bad about the KTM. They are a great bike. I do like the Berg better. Most of my preference comes from the handling and suspension. I have to confess, I like having a bike not everyone else has. The Berg 450 has enough power to shred trails with me on it. I weigh 205lb, and ride at higher altitude, 6000-10000'. I will say that I swapped rides last weekend with a friend on a CRF450 Honda, and was suprised at the harder hit the Honda had at lower RPM. That being said, I was slower on the Honda. I couldn't keep up when on the Honda. My friend was very impressed with my Berg, and quite fast on it.( Of course, this friend would be fast on a Vespa.) The 450 Berg is a great trail and enduro ride. It will not excell at MX. The softer hit down low means great traction and hook-up, and less wear and tear on the rider. It is no wimp, it will shred a knobby just fine. I can only imagine how much better I would have finished in enduros years ago on this bike. Dependability has been excellent. I love the elecrtic start. Try to bum a ride on one before spending the money. Buzzard

i have owned a KTM(93 300) and my present bike the 06 450 berg. the old ktm was fast and reliable, ut the susp sucked(duh its a 93) i am ten MPH faster through every kind of terrain on this bike. it handles well through everything i have taken it through-desert,snow,mud,loos rock/sand, dusty and tight trails.

i will agree that it is no MX bike, but one will not keep up with it in the wood(of course with comparable riders). i was in you place about three months ago and i have now put over 600 miles in weekend riding with no issues except me tipping it completely upside down and filling the cylinder with oil. new plug and the prob was solved. on a side note this bike does not have four stroke syndrome when it comes to changing a plug, it is easier than me 300 two-stroke was!!!!

very easy to start, if i follow the starting ritual then is starts first KICK every time, ya i kick it to save on the batt. in fact when i bought the bike from BOSS rick started the bike with his hand to show me how easy it was. i would recommend a hot start lever as i have noticed a few extra cranks when warm, just to save wear and tear.

i weigh 185 and 5-10. not a beginner, but suck on the track. pretty fast off road, at least i would like to think. and this bike has plenty of pucker factor as long as your trail is not 100FT wide(desert stuff). i have hit 60 on the trail and even got it up 72, i wanted more.

the only complaint i HAD was the auto kick stand, now i love it, i curse the regular one when have to move friends bikes.

and lastly i will have to admit, i hate riding what everyone else has, especially when it sucks off road.

the new bergs are sweet, blue and yeller or black and orgone.... ither way, unless you are a pro you will most likely be happy with both(go with the berg)

FE450e short stroke, the shortest stroke 450 in the market. motor has revy racey linear power band, no hit except down low after 15 hours, wide ratio you get going faster then you think. 2 lbs lighter then the ktm

450EXC long stroke longest 450 stroke, directional feel good for mud, nice mid range hit. strong motor, suspension ok not as nice as the berg suspension out of the crate.

two different bikes.
