How does one do the Keihin upgrade?

In a nutshell, and without telling me what I should do or should not do and who won World War II, what do I need as far as parts and work to update my 01 FE501e from a Dellorto to a Keihin FCR 41 carb. Besides of course the carb, the throttle assembly and a few screwdrivers.

Thanks for your help!

Basic (multi piece) FCR carburetors require air boot adaptor KE 021-212 and inlet spigot KE 020-427.

FCR MX carburetors only require KE 021-212.

Both carburetors require Kawasaki part number 920-55-1492 O-Ring.

One of my Jet kits is a very good investment for either carburetor.

Note:
Kits differ depending upon the carburetor model.

Dale

PS
I strongly recommend the fuel inlet be moved to the carburetors left side away from the exhaust. Such involves a bit of fabrication.

Wouldn't the 04-05-06 Husaberg inlet spigot and air boot do the trick?

The OEM uses the FCR "MX" carburetor which has the inlet spigot molded directly into the carburetor body. In addition the OEM air boot adaptor is plastic as opposed to that of the KE 021-212 which is cast of the same alloy of the carburetor.

Thanks, Dale. By "fabrication", what do you mean?

What type of FCR 41 can fit? TPS or not? Hot start or not?

So I gather that the different FCR 41s had a different inlet diameter, one having the same as the PHM40?

The OEM fuel inlet is blocked with a suitable plug.
A new inlet is bored in the right side of the carburetor.
(I personally fashion a "T" that is part of the inlet fitting)

All "generic" FCR MX 41 molded inlet spigot carburetors will fit the OEM Husaberg inlet manifold.

For a frog, you sure ask a lot of questions. :) LOL

Contact "HusaStarts" as I recently performed such an installation on his 501. Said installation included a new camshaft and dynamometer tuning.

Well, maybe I should have chosen the name "Grasshopper", then...

I like to ask questions to learn as much as I can.

It seems to be quite a pain to do this switch, I will stick to the Dellorto and tune it well, and if I want a Keihin on my Berg, I'll buy a new Berg.

Thanks for your kind answers.

For $150.00 plus parts and shipping I can modify your PHM 40 to work very well. Said modifications include some proprietary parts and machining.

You get what you pay for. Ask around, I have been doing such a mod to the PHM 40 for well over a decade. :)

Hi Dale:

Does this mod target any specific areas, i.e. starting, low speed circuit etc.

Thanks,

Eric

Thanks,

All areas of operation with exception of the fuel enrichment (ie quasi choke) circuit. Most often said circuit is of little value.

Modifications include the adaptation of keihin main jets.

there you go froggy!

now don't tell me, i can guess!

and i thought the owners doc was there to save us all fom boring repetitive posts...

OKAY OKAY I am sending my Dellorto to be "Lineweavered" :)

That way I can leave you all alone for a little while.

so, Dale, how did it run?
Modern 501, your cam, carb, and tuning...

I thought it ran great, however, I am biased. :)

Wouldn't a 39mm be a better choice for that bike?

Hi PowerCell,

All else remaining equal most often the answer is no.

The FCR 39 provides "bright" delivery and often less overall tractability is the result.

Often when the "Yee Haw" factor goes up an exponential reduction in forward motion is taking place.

Dale
