High speed shut down- revisited

Hello all, back in july I posted a blurb about my 02 FX470(see high speed shut down in Fuel forum). Since then some answers have come to the surface! The next time I took the Berg out, I had a lot of blue(oil)smoke, figuring that it was oil left on the plug, I went riding, expecting the oil to clean out. After a mile or so, I stopped to see if the smoking had stopped. Much to my surprise the motor was still smoking. I changed my ride loop to a much shorter(and closer to the truck) loop. When I returned to the truck, the motor was still smoking, oil was running out from the header pipes, and oil was all over the rear fender! The oil leak was going to end shortly, because there was going to be no more oil! Once home I tore into the engine. What I found was interesting. The valve train, cam, seals were perfect. Took the head off, found all the plating in the cylinder had made a new home in the oil rings! Now before everyone starts freaking out about the condition of there cylinder, there is another detail that must be told. Back in January of this year, I had Boss build my motor. He had tried to get me to replace the cylinder because it had some rusty areas. Thinking I was saving a buck, I instructed Boss to clean up the old cylinder, and against his better judgment he did use the old cylinder. Well here we are, a long story I know, but an answer to the mystery. Trying to save a couple of hundred bucks wound up costing me six hundred, I missed racing the Washougal GP, and the BOSS 200! Always listen to your mechanic!!! I was going to call this "600 reasons why you listen to Boss!" Rick.. I will never doubt you again! So the reason why the bike shut off at high rpm was oil fouling/ cylinder plating shorting the spark plug. Long story I know, thanks for reading it.

I'm not familiar with the how the cylinders are imade in the later engines. I was under the impression they were a Nikasil'd aluminium, but you mention rust marks? Does this mean they are chromed steel and it was the chrome that ended up in the ring grooves? Just handy FMI.

Bundybear, the rust was marks came from the piston rings, but was there long enough to damage the plating(worn plating to boot). I am not sure which plating is used on a Berg cylinder.
