High and lowspeedcompression?

Hallo!

I´ve done some reading on suspension and shock, but how to adjust Highspeedcompression on shock and suspension noone says a thing.

In the doc.. they describe how to recognize when to much or to little of it but not were and how the adjustments are done...

Does it work like the usual compression... in other words damps the compression to the right and ....hmmm.. don´t damp to the left?

And another thing, I know how to adjust the preload on the shock... but can it be done in a similar way on the front suspension? If that´s the case how?

(I´ve got a 501 ´01 am I right when I believe that the compression on the shock is mirrored compared to the front? I mean that adjust out (left) gives me more damping compared to the front that gives more damping adjusted in (right)?)

hi rikard

in the doc i try to leave alone the stuff that should be in the manuals for you. and it is in the manuals...!!!!

the HSCD (hight speed compression damping) is adjusted with a 17mm spanner and it has approximately 3.75 turns in total. on all five settings (3 shock, 2 fork) it's the same, anti-clockwise means less of something/less resistance to stopping your inertia. and then you have vice-versa.

the springs in your forks don't have a preload ring. they simply have washers. you can add these up to about 15mm. and after that you can't get a spanner on the top nut with more of the shims in the way.

as i've mentioned. the HSCD stops the bike bottoming out over rollers and off table tops etc. it's the last part of the travel.

high speed really means big bumps and low speed means small bumps to you and i.

Sorry, but I can´t find nothing about it in the Husaberg manual....

were is it located.. is it just the shock that has got a HSC?

So I got things wrong when I believe the compadjuster, shock to work the other way?
Why do they measure that from full out, when they measure all other adjusters from full in?

it's in my owners manual! just the basics of which way tot urn the adjusters but it is there.

i believe that everyone asks you to screw clockwise, this is always inwards because everything is threaded and always threaded the same way. i don't know who asks you to count the other way ( i won't confuse us by saying it).

i have the free little handbooks that WP produce which i think came with the bike new.

only the shock has HSCD. the forks just have damping.

good luck

ok, I´ve looked around some and it seems that the H and Lspeedcompression came on ´03 and on... so I can forget about that... as I´m riding ´01....

And, still, according to my manual shockcompression adds damping to the left.... quite opposite to the front...

Correct me if I´m wrong anyone...

As always, Taffy, ... thanks for taking your time to answer mate.

You are correct on the rear shock compression adjuster. The earlier WP PDS shocks had compression adjusters that you turn counter-clockwise to add damping and clockwise to make the damping lighter.

didn't know that!

i have an '02 and we have LSCD and HSCD which work as said previously!

apologies boheme.

Not a problem!

Keep up the good work on the doc and all your contributions (I think that´s the word) at this site!

Those have been very helpful!

Taff,
Ditto for the Aussie 02s.

and something we all should keep in mind that all countries do not necessarily get the same specc'd bikes for their respective year - for example my 03 Aussie delivery bike still only has the 20mm front axle- as has all 03 Australian bikes I have seen, while it seems the rest of the world scored the 30mm axle and big hubs.

truly the last remnants of sweden then ausberg?

just three years ago the aussies got the bikes first. seems more than that....

I think the Aussie 03s only have the small axle/hubs because they were probably the first batch of 03s made, and they were using up the last of the smaller pieces ??

Maybe the later Aussie delivered 03s have the bigger pieces- changing of parts has occured 1/2 way through a "year of manufactures" production run before.

Im aware of 2 aussie 05 550s that have different LHS sidecovers (one angled and one straight oil filler)-both were supplied this way ex dealer.

And yes, it seems we do get our bikes much later now- I think a glut of 05/06 stocks and an apparently eager American market have seen them get the 07s first while our Australian importer is not even acknowledging the 07s existence yet............
