Hi, thought id introduce myself, Name is Spencer and im a vw/audi specialist tech over in norfolk. Got a small shop where i try and stick with just the VAG brand cars, but do find myself with the odd resto job in from time to time. I've recently bought a 2001 fs650. Its my second berg, previously had a 99 fe400, but always wanted a 650 so this one popped up needing work and it was the right price.

Anyway, i'll stick up a proper thread about the bike and my build, hopefully with a few pics too, but just wanted to say hi first!

Already found tonnes of great info on this site, so thanks!

Welcome, fellow 650 owner and VW T5 so may be bending your ear for van info.

Carl.

I also have a t5, in a swb. not had it long but its undergone some serious work, alot of tuning. The engine hardware its running is now ready for just over 250bhp, unfortunately the ecu remap will have to wait as the bike is costing me far to much at the moment haha

Cant seem to find a section like "readers rides" or something similar, so thought id stick a few picks up of my bike in this thread if thats ok.

Here is it the day i got it delivered

it was and still is a bit rough in places, but for the price i paid i was very happy.

Im going to upload a bunch of pics now to show whats gone on so far, so please bear with me!

Dash cluster tested - its a Koso digital unit, highly recommend, especially for the price! has indicator, high beam warning, eml, warning, temp warning etc, plus all odometer funtion and trip. Excellent bit of kit and makes a super neat install at the speed sensor end. way under half the cost of a trail tech

also the dash provided a handy place to fit a terminal block so i have a take off for permanant 12v, ignition 12 and earth behind my light. Although ive followed the manual sort of, i have wired this up to improve on what i thought could be done better.
The new stator has also gone to 3ph rectifier which directly feeds the battery, and the lights come straight from the battery now via a 40amp relay. so no more dim lights!

All finished and wired up. Just need to paint the dash panel now but wanted to prove it all out first before dismantling it again.

final pic of it all back together and a quick wipe down. I have since relocated the starter solenoid to under the rear seat, along with the rectifier.

Now its running pretty good, just got the jetting to look over again as its pops and bangs alot on the overrun.

Plan for the winter includes powdercoat the frame, get the engine casings blasted and ill repaint them as they are scruffy, have the head off, fit double valve springs, maybe new valves, head machined, modified auto decomp, new cam chain, replacement decals and seat cover, ideally in the same style, and a general tidy up.

Now i just want to enjoy it! had my first proper ride on some light green lanes and road, done 35 miles and it was awesome. starts on the button immediately every time which im chuffed about also!

thats it for now, thanks for reading/looking

Looking forward to the pictures, but can't see them at the moment - seems like a permissions issue from the image hosting?
