Have a PROBLEM

I think I have found my problem a sticky float needle.I took a break on it for a while then pulled the carb back off and used a compresser and thin wire and went through the carb again. The float needle does not move smooth and was a little hard to spot under failing light.I tried to get it to move smooth but don`t know if I suceeded or not.I will recheck in a day or so if it doesn`t work would replacing the jets help?Or is there a way to get the float needle to stay unstuck?Well at least now I know where the problem is.I hope. Thanks

Bill,
The float needle is also refered to as (float valve). You'll need to remove the floats to get to it. I would replace the float valve because once the rubber tip starts sticking, it will always be a problem. Sounds like yours is in bad shape to stick so easily.

These folks will have what you are looking for or you can always try Dan at Motoxotica.

You'll get her running soon! She just needs a little fuel!

Don't the floats drop off as part of the float bowl? Mine do.

Turn on the gascock with the float bowl off. No fuel running out will tell you if the float valve/needle is stuck.

carb parts

I think that best thing to do would be to put new parts in the carb.I know I need to replace the float needle at least.I want to ask a question which way does the floats go in ,with the pegs on the top or on the bottom?Thats what touches the float arm for the float needle.I have done this so much that I`am suffering from brain fade-can`t remember for certain.By the way I thought I was getting fuel to the intake but that was over spray-false alarm.I will keep tinkering might get it running by this winter or later.Taffys suggestion is starting to look better and better. Thanks and take care.

Bill - Sounds like your missus would make a good drag car driver :!:
No Brad, she just can`t drive a straight drive,if you think she`s dangerous going forward heaven forbid don`t get behind her if she is trying to backup. 8O I have a question.Where can I get a float needle for a VHSB 38mm Dellortio carb?I checked with Dan,he would have to order it.Checked at a shop near me ,the top mech said they had it more than likely. Then talked to the parts guy to find out the cost{boy where do they find people that dim}.I would go on a big rant but I won`t.I`am willing to match the thing up to make sure it works.I know there are other bikes that use this make of carb,if the carbs are the same shouldn`t they interchange? Thanks

 I got the float needle and seat installed today. Was looking forward to taking a ride but it was not to be.I was was in the process of adjusting the float height when one of the tangs broke. Now I have to get one of those or improvise, have not made my mind up yet.I will price one tomorrow. It should not be long now.Catch you on the rerun.

Well thats what I thought at the time.I got a e-mail from one shop and was told that it would be a couple of weeks before they could get the part{providing they can get it}.I then sent Dan a message to see if he can get one.I hope so,this waiting for little odds and ends is starting to get a little tiresome.Does anyone have a floatarms for a Dellorto VHSB 38mm carb that they would be willing to part with?Or where I can get one fairly quick. The way this is going it will be the 4th of July before anything happens.Might have to prep the bike for winter storage while waiting.Like what I said its getting tiresome.

Re:Update

Today I got everything back togather. The most I can get out of this thing is a dull backfire through the muffler after between 10 and 20 kicks.Am I over looking something?I don`t know what else to do.Thanks for any ideas or tips.

Have you tried priming it with carb cleaner just to get it running? Pull of the air cleaner, twist the throttle and spray some cleaner in past the slide. Usually about a 3 second squirt should do it. Revert back to your normal starting routine and see what happens.

Bill, dear bill! :D :D :D

GET A BLOODY TOW ROPE AND PULL START IT. OW!!!!

Couldn`t you do the same thing by spraying into the sparkplug hole?I did some more checking and rechecking, got dark on me before I could finish. Will try again tomorrow. Thanks

Taffy that will be when I get real desperate.I may have to find a real long downhill with plenty of traction. The tow rope would work if I could find someone who can drive a straight drive worth a hoot.I`ll get it running one day, hopefully tomorrow.Take care.

I think my way is easier. You dont want too much fuel in the cylinder. Hopefully the carb cleaner will be better atomized going through the carb.

Is your bike a FC or a FE?My bike is a FE thats why I asked about useing the sparkplug hole.Do you remove the rubber boot between the carb and the frame/airbox?Thanks for the suggestion

 I`am having a time with the float height adjustment.Couldn`t find any information in the service manual so I started a new topic. Was either flood or famine on the adjustment.Worked on it from 10AM to 4PM and I`am very disgusted and tired of the whole thing :x Try it again in a day or so.Be riding in the snow at this rate. :!:
