Gear selector mechanism maintenance

Hi folks,

I have seen a number of comments about needing to get to the gear selector mechanism and clean it up once in a while.

My 650 gearshift is starting to get quite notchy and tight - is this the symptom?
If so does anyone know of a link to a technical "how to" write up? I have searched the archives to no avail... :cry:
Alternatively can someone describe what needs to be done and how often.

Thanks for the document. It has a lot of information and insight in it!

Please can you (or someone else for that matter) expand on the following 3 line items from your doc...

Stuck in gear - Selector fork - Remove Ã¢â‚¬ËœclawÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ plate, rub away edges and burrs. Ã¢â‚¬â„¢04 = hardened steel

Getting neutral - Button on selector drum - Grind this down a bit and itÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s easier

Changing gear - Clutch centre - Gets grooved. New one means easy changes again.

Questions (sorry if I am asking the obvious here, but I am new to Husaberg maintenance):
1. Does the '04 selector fork fit the '01?
2. I battle to get nuetral. Does this mean I need to work on the selector drum (& is this the same as the selector fork)?
3. Does a sticky gearchange mean I need a new clutch?

i'll try to help again here! i think if you pull the left sidecover off and have a look at it you'll see a lot of what i'm explaining.

the clutch drum gets very grooved and as you know the plates have to move in and out for neutral and gearchanges etc. however the deep grooves act as 'wheelchocks' for each plate and rather than running loose and apart when you pull the clutch lever they all bind.

the selector fork can be seen in your parts manual and again if you pull the left cover off all will be revealed. i don't know whether the '04 will fit but as a complete unit i bet it does.

ask for one and find out!

as for the neutral button

that shouldn't be there and it'll be removed. i took that from an aussie who suggested it and upon inspection it doesn't have the system i have seen elsewhere. not all the ideas are mine you understand.

Hi,
I'm confused about what you are calling a selector fork. The only thing I see called out in the parts manual with fork is the shift forks. You state it is accessible by pulling the left cover, are you meaning to refer to the positioning star(or shift detent star)??? :?:

it's connected to the shaft that pokes through the left cover that has a lever on it called the gearlever. meanwhile back at the other end of the shaft you have a huge 'hairpin' looking spring and a plate that moves back and forward turning the pins in the selector star which are part of the selector drum.

got that? neither would i!

just turn your flat hand vertically, pull the middle pair of fingers back. the baby finger and your index are left looking forward. now you know what the selector fork is.

just pull thew cover off all o ya and go see. pictures worth a thousand words according to telly savalas.

just turn your flat hand vertically, pull the middle pair of fingers back. the baby finger and your index are left looking forward. now you know what the selector fork is.

Now that's the best description of a mechanical component I've seen in a while :lol:
