Fuel pump going out?

I went with the turntech, never looked back. the combo of fuel pump and Li battery made me love the bike again. Glad to see you are back up and running good :)

Now to de restrict the exhaust and I'll be set. the 90+ days up in the PNW are rare but there always seems to be traffic! lol

I bought a '10 model 570 in Dec 10 and the pump started failing around July '11 at 70hrs. Got a new OE pump assembly FOC as a 'good will gesture' from Husaberg. Put it all back together, filled the tank and it fired after 3-4 seconds so not sure what all this priming nonsense is about. As has been mentioned, gravity should be enough to prime the pump. If it wasn't, the bike would not start so readily when run out of fuel which I have done a couple of times
Now at over 210 hours and still going strong. After fitting the new pump (and filter) I also added a Profill tank sock.

When you take the pump that is located at the bottom of the tank out and you get rid of a large chunk of fuel line, that line isn't magically full of fuel when you put the system back together. the fuel line exits the gas tank at the top of the fuel tank. So fuel must travel UP. Gravity doesn't agree with stuff just moving up on its own unless it has some negative pressure pulling it up through that hose and down to your head. Along with the fuel where you split the line by the case spilling out too.

^My entire fuel system was emptied* Yours probably had fuel still in most of the lines.

This creates air pockets and the pump must push the fuel/air mixture through the system until the system is (primed)

When you start a 2011 FS570 the bike starts the pump up before you even hit the start button (unlike the kick versions, which incorporates that into the kick cycle) This is what they call (priming) To get something ready for use.

As for running out of gas, you still had gas in the tank, it was just bellow the level your pump could pick it up. You lost your Prime. the bike loses fuel pressure and the bike falls on its face. (shuts off) In that case your pump stopped trying to do anything and that was that. Once you added fuel to the bike then you started your bike I'm pretty sure your pump kicked on. Priming the system...... its how EFI works...

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/fuel-injection.htm <--- a good read if you are interested. A EFI system without fuel pressure just doesn't work. the system must be pressurized (aka primed) before it will function correctly.

Yep, I know exactly how an EFI system works, believe me. They've been around for a few years now. There's nothing new about them. The system on the Husa is a simple one. All the pump has to do is provide a steady regulated pressure to the injector which the ECU fires. OK, when you fit a new pump, it, and the fuel pipes are indeed empty but the pump can deliver close to 50 psi and will fill and pressurise the pipes in a second or so. The start delay after fitting my new pump was no different to that when I ran out of fuel. The non OE pumps may work fine but as far as fitting them goes there seems to be an awful lot of faffing about 'making things fit' compared to an OE pump/filter/pipes assembly which just bolts straight in, assuming you can get hold of one in the first place of course. I had a little problem starting the bike after the installation of the new fuel pump, too. The trick was to turn the key but not hit the starter button several times to make certain that there was nothing but fuel in the fuel lines. After that, the bike has started more readily than it did fresh off the showroom floor.

The only conclusion I can come to was that the factory fuel pump was sources from the lowest bidder.

I switched out stuff and my bike was apart for more than a week (new fuel pump breaking ;p) so that probably had something to do with it.

I just so happened to have it completely back apart last night :D

Under 45 minute job now to take it out and fix the wires coming lose. I just had to jump that speed bump.....

Oh well im trying something out and if it works ill post it.

P.S. being stuck on a bridge as a 6'2" guy is no fun...I swear those barriers are 2 feet tall lol...

Husa, what is the experiment you are conducting? Do you have results to post yet?

I'm pretty sure what I''m seeing in my pump is a very small loss of pressure. When my bike falls(not always) and dies, it won't start for a couple minutes, or will start for a second then die. I now just stab the start button quickly a few times to let the pump cycle. The bike starts up fine thereafter....

Just an update, new pump still running strong. (Was riding in 90+ degree with humidity) no tank wrap, no header wrap and stock exhaust. I can see how the stock pump would die under these conditions. My bike with the emissions stuff off and the new pump still would not start first try. (Five second burst of start button with five seconds between tries.) Would usually take 2 or more attempts.

I just install an Akra slip on and holy crap...start right up. Just have to tap that start button she doesn't even skip a beat.

All the other normal mods for me did nothing.

Aside from when my pump was obviously failing I've never had starting issues and the bike is standard apart from having these items removed from the exhaust from day 1.

Glad your bike is running like a champ for you! Yours didn't come with the canister?

The small disc was in the end of the silencer and is a spark arrestor.....I think. The other bit looks like a CAT of some sort but not sure where in the exhaust it came from as it was removed by the dealer before delivery. IIRC the bike was also remapped.

Ah, the remapping probably is the big difference here. Mine was not and i was told it'd get better at starting the more i rode it.

I'm just two steps away from getting it remapped anyways. Still think its a tad lean.

You still running the stock air filter or did you upgrade to a DNA/UNI?
