Not sure the proper term for it, but is the lowest section of the fork removable? And if so, how? I would like to change from a radial to axial brake mount and have the other type on another set of forks if it's possible to change without changing the whole lower section and having the forks apart.

Remove the lower fork leg by following fork seal changing instructions
Then you clamp the aluminium still and heat it to soften the loctite
while it's hot Use a round rod of suitable diameter through Te holes at the bushing lands to turn the steel tube
It will make sense when you take the lower fork leg out.
They can be difficult.
