front/counter sprocket play

so this is probably a stupid question but i got to ask. I just got a 2007 husaberg fe550e. It's my first husaberg and i love it. now to my issue i thought i was hearing some chain noise like maybe it was too loose i checked it and the adjustment is right, but the front/counter sprocket seems to have quite a bit of play (in/out). I haven't taken it apart yet i don't understand what the failure is or how to correct it. it appears to be just held on the spline with a c/retaining clip?
I didn't exactly phrase that in the form of a question did I :D
I hope you can decipher my ramblings.
Thanks,
Austin

check that the sprocket is 12mm wide and not a husky sprocket which is 11mm. if you have a 1mm gap by pressing the sprocket back between it and the circlip - well you know you do.

the clatter is usually caused by too loose a chain, try compressing the suspension with your chest and then checking the slack for minimum. like 10mm. next it will rattle the chain rollers- are yours shagged out?

finally, it rattles the frame which could be part of your narrow sprocket probelm. i.e. 2 problems now for the price of one!

oh! and welcome to UHE. put your bike and location into your signature pleae.

regards

Taffy
