FR4 Time to plan whats next

...it would be good to take up some of the good points from both moabs. we knew even then that being a matter of yards from the trails was a blessing. the police being fairly loose was another.

i cant figure any other way to say this so here it goes.....
i agree with taffy.

he was there for fr1 and fr2 in moab.
actually taffy and i became the self appointed sweepers and we figured a way to ride with two groups at one time. we did it because of our selfless desire to help our fellow riders. the fact that we got almost double riding in was something we had to deal with.
the fun we all had being at one place was priceless.
it was the largest missing piece at fr3.
the cabins in moab were basically one room with two beds. no plumbing, no kitchen, nothing. and it was great.

i understand the two year cycle, but i think that should change to each and every year.
so fr4 will be stellar if we combine all the best of the rides.
of course we will have to tolerate the foreigners coming from europe, canada, and 'the south'. if they learned to speak english it would help.

I do like to go ghetto, the cheaper the better. i'll take steak and potatos outside over a resturant anytime. Where else is there to ride in March, that won't have horrible weather ? Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee ????? Got me, I do love Moab

well it's 17 months to march 2011. 5 or 17? take the 17 i reckon! it'll fly in no time! maybe april is still ok at a higher latitude. i said march because most people's diaries aren't very cluttered.

anyway - whatever!

I like the ghetto cheep too. Then I can spend more on bikes :D
March in Tennessee is possibly still kinda mucky or sloppy conditions but April is usually fine, but being a subtropical rain forest there is always the possibility of rain no matter what the season. But, as the seasons progress the rain gets warmer & not super uncomfortable.Does it really matter as long as you are not cold? The mud & slimy roots & dead leaves etc... on hills are quite a challenge (at least for me  ) although that is fun too. I think I will be happy to ride where ever FR4 is. I love the south east since I grew up riding there. I love the west since that is what I have so much fun riding now. Oregon's pics of the trails look stellar & I would love to get to experience something different. :) but I would go back again & again to the same places. Moab is Great & Colorado is breath taking, I love it all! :D Any day that I am riding dirt bikes is the perfect day :D

If this was held in the southeast.....ie: TN, SC, I'm sure you might get more of us foreingers down for it. I know I'd be all over it like a Polarbear on a baby seal.

If we're thinking of Utah in March again I vote for a bit north of Moab and try to find some stuff with less slick rock. Views are great but I prefer more varied riding.
Green River?
Az may also be good in March

A buddy of mine has ridden around the Green river area and said there is single track for days. I'll see if I can get some info from him.

I think there is also more riding out around the the .........swell. It's like a ridge to the west. Cheeseberger knows that area pretty well I think.

What part of the state would these trails be in?

It's basically on the North side if I 70 from Moab.

There is good stuff on the south side of I70 too, that you can reach from moab if you're frisky. colby, conan, brendan, taffy and I did some of that stuff 2 years ago. rode all the way into green river for gas. The town of green river is much more limited in terms of entertainment, but you can actually ride from town into the white wash area.

If you want to add the san rafael swell in too (30 mins west of green river), april is probably a better time, since it's a bit higher than green river and moab.

5MOH in the Swell is on my list of rides I need to cross off...

I think you would enjoy it. Not much chance of going fast enough to go flying off the trail to your doom. lol.

While 5moh is quite difficult, pretty much all the other trails in the swell are mellow fun and scenic and suitable for a variety of skill levels.

I'm ok with Colorado again because I feel like I just scratched the surface but I also agree that changing the location is better for everyone.
Variety is the spice of life and it gives great exposure to other members riding and areas. It is a community after all. Oregon would be a nice location...riding in the giant redwoods wouldn't be something I would forget anytime soon.

the reason it would be unforgettable would be that you made a wrong turn on the trail and ended up in calikornia, brad

I vote for Colorado... cause I missed FR3...

Seriously.. I would be willing to coordinate the event. I was thinking of Lake City, Buena Vista or Ouray/Silverton.
