Hi Guys,
I thought I start a new thread to pull the others together.
We need to answer a few questions:
1 Do we want to do it?
If the answer is yes
2 When?
Is around Easter good timing? It aligns with school holidays which can help some and hinder others. It also means that a ride park like Louee is in demand, and probably already booked up. We certainly can’t book the shearers quarters at Louee because the mini bike clubs are already there. I have a booking in place at the moment for Easter 2008, made on spec some months ago when we kicked this off but this is more a statement of intent and we need to confirm or cancel or postpone. We seem to have previously voted for the week after Easter.
3 Where?
Somewhere that offers, basic cheap accommodation and cold beer, good riding and is as geographically central as possible. Louee does seem to fit those criteria. The riding it offers is:
a Track based, MX SX, Thumpers, or GT. The SX and MX get the maintenance though.
b Bush. A mix of rough fire trails and single track. The tracks are graded Blue, easy, Red, intermediate, and Black, hard. It has all suffered with use and the drought, so it is rutted, rocky and whooped. Even the Blue has its traps and is only really 'easy' in the sense that there are no hills. I reckon its great fun and I loved it, others suffered a bit. I did just on 150 km over the 2 days, a couple of GT laps and the rest out in the bush, I didn’t do all of the trails, but did do some loops a few times. I probably only did about 30 km on Sunday, so about 120 km on Saturday for me was great, but then I like riding.
Louee is also OK for unregistered bikes and unlicensed riders, of which we had one or two the other day.
If we go for Louee again and the week after Easter then as others have pointed out it is possible to add some involvement with the Condo 750, a 2 day navigational rally like the Safari or Dakar. OrangeBerg gets involved in that one. Cafey18 has also indicated that in the days between he would lead a ride or two on the fire trails around the area, Bathurst and Sunny Corner, etc. This is the sort of riding that Louee does not offer, and would require rego and license.
4 How much organising do we want to do? It seems that we could get a block booking for the pub and then let individuals confirm by a set date before we lose it and then just let Louee know we are coming.
What do I reckon? Louee will do the job for the above reasons. If cafey18 can lead a day or two in the hills nearby then I reckon it’ll be perfect. It’ll also justify travelling, more riding than just a weekend will be on offer. Spectating/riding the Condo also sounds interesting.
So
Do we do it?
