Force Ride 4 (2012) - FR5?

I'm on the Husaberg team now with my 2011 570 that I use for racing, fun, and commuting. I'll host a gathering like this if people want to ride amazing singletrack in the Reno/Tahoe area. I own a backcountry ski and mt bike shop in Truckee. We also do kayaking, paddleboarding, and rock climbing. So I could help people do no-moto adventures if they need a break from the amazing riding around here.

I'd suggest as soon as possible, mid week. I race on weekends into mid november. A weekend could still work in late November, but hopefully we will be skiing by then. Usually not though. Snow means great riding in the Nevada desert mountains 30 -60 minutes from here around Reno. Or call it May 2013.

I am willing to negotiate a place for everyone to stay if I have an idea of how many people, and whether it's Reno or Truckee. If people want to spend normal hotel fair I would recommend the Cedar House in Truckee. That's the most central location for all the riding if we are snow free, and the town where my business is. Cedar House is new and very nice with a great hi end restaurant, but is 1 mile from town. If we have too much snow to ride, the whole thing just moves down the hill and stages from Reno.

Day one Moonrocks/Lemon Valley, NV - 10 miles north of Reno. CAMP OUT is my preference, pitching in for a great local camp chef I know. Or stay wherever you want. By the end of the day we will see who wants what difficulty in the next day ride. Great mountain singletrack of hard sand with scattered rocks and a lot of great non-mandatory hill climbs. This shot is from the Fort Sage Mountains, an official CA OHV area with about 50 miles really beautiful wide sandy singletrack. Snow very unlikely due to lower elevation and west facing. 40 minutes north of reno.

day two Truckee - 2 or 3 rides for different difficulties. The most difficult would be a mostly rocky and beautiful singletrack tour along the Western States Route. Goes from Soda Springs Exit at Donner Summit in Truckee, to Forest Hill Divide in Auburn. Out and back, so go as far as you want. No huge hill climbs or anything impossible. Just not smoth. 10 miles of dirt roads leads to a 40 mile singletrack stretch to forest hill. So go as far as you want. Most will stop at Robinson Flat, which is 30 miles into the ride. This shot is from one of the peaks above Tahoe City.

Nice moderately technical short singletrack climb to Prosser Hill above Truckee, on OHV trail. Other trails in the area and kids/adult mx track all in town too.

day three - Downiville one hour north of TruckeeFor the most serious off road riders we would go do a beautiful 70 mile singletrack loop in Downiville, CA which is an hour north of here. 4000' difference between the top and bottom with many route options that occasionally have difficult creek crossings, cliff-side moments, and rock gardens. Piece of cake stuff.

Here's some links to pictures I've put on my own website of riding within an hour of North Tahoe

contact me anytime regardless if you want to talk riding. I also love the Idaho idea, I go to the ketchum area to ride most every fall. But it's getting cold there soon.

Wow, that sounds wonderful. I think it maybe too late to get a good group this year. Sounds great for the spring.

Backcountry, you are really aggravating me! LOL, not really, but don't give away all the good stuff. You know how BLM is, they already want to close the whole world to motorcycles.

Ok being serious now, you are talking about holding this ride in my backyard and in country I ride a lot. Hmmmm....., I'd probably participate. If you need some suggestions for the arean north of Reno, I'd be glad to contribute.

I hear you. I don't talk about riding locations for the most part, I just caught this thread and got kinda crazy about my bike since buying it a few months ago.

I've never seen a USFS employee on a single ride I've ever been on, and hardly another rider. I don't ride holiday weekends though. I think this would be fun. I wouldn't go to a YZ450 gathering even though I own 2 of them. But the Husaberg is an interesting animal that it seems we are all learning about from each other.

Hit downiville today on mountain bikes. Reminds me of riding enduros in the northeast growing up, only with way better scenery and weather. Riding is so diverse around here.

Mike? How is the riding up in the Reno/Tahoe area right now? Getting cooler? What about the dust?

I haven't been riding up there since I rode the RR200 ride with the DDMC last month. Great ride - Reno/Sparks to Sierraville "the back way". Not too much single-track, but still a lot of fun. I've done some riding around the Prosser Lake area as well as near Independence Lake. I'd love to do the Truckee to Foresthill route sometime. Sounds like a blast.

Dust isn't too bad, but it's about to disappear possibly for good. This storm we are getting after the weekend will be the first real winter storm, and should mean the last of the dust in many places. The dust doesn't come back being this cold at night. Fall colors are in full bloom, some of which will come off in the storm. Best time of year to do anything really.

Hi Mike,

Your ride suggestions sound great.

How about bike needs? Does one need a license plate or just a CA Off Road sticker?

Might have to start kickin this around again. I've been on the shelf for 2 years, not sure how much I could be involved. We may need some new blood to take point.

I would love to attend FR5. Moab sounds great. I know several locals down there, as well as a "backcountry" guru from Salt Lake. Excellent rides at 10 mile wash, Cainville, Temple Mountain, Newspaper rock, and of course Moab proper.

Snowmobiling SUCKS thus far, therefore Im pulling the Berg out tomorrow for a ride.

I say lets get this ball rolling?

Im interested, Moab is only a 9 hour drive for me.

Berg570FE, I was out riding today and ran into a guy from up your way. He is making his way down to socal to hit ocotillo wells. Took him on short 30 mile loop in the desert. I mentioned wanting to ride teanaway, he said he has way better trails than that :D

Must have been Matt.

Washington does have some excellent trails! Ive been riding them for 30 years now, and trust me, I know them all.

Canadian boarder, to the desert outside of the Tri-Cities, and any and all in the Cascades, I know em'.

Teanaway has the undisputed GNARLIEST trail in the state, within the least used legal trail system.

I live for advanced, gnarly trails. So unless your friend is referring to a joy ride, Teanaway is where its at

Back on the thread topic, I would really like to join in on a Force ride. I am willing to help out if at all needed.
Ive been to Southeastern Utah 9 times now, and know of some excellent "secret" desert loops. Looong loops :D

probably without the insane guys who did all the work to get the past rides together it wont happen.
having all the events and sponsors is cool but a lot of work, I'm guessing.
if its moab just don't schedule when they have the big car show.
reserve that place where fr1 and fr2 were.
i'll bring a keg and a bbq.

I think the economy has messed up a lot of riders.
hopefully 2014 is better
planning should start about now though.
I prefer Gunnison myself.
moab is great but Gunnison is epic.

maybe there should be a new topic for fr5 2014?
whenever and where ever I'm 95% in.

Bump again!!

I'd be more than happy to get something here in Washington going. Like the Lake Wenatchee area. Obviously this is far from being central for everyone.

Between connections with the City, the Rangers and the bike industry, I could muster up a cool get together.
