So I just scored a FMF ti powerbomb header and mid-pipe for my FE450 for a sweet price. Naturally the next step would be to look for one of those nice looking FMF factory 4.1 mufflers, but I'm kinda thinking that it's not really needed. My bike came with the muffler marked KTM Krizman on the back and from what I've been reading it's supposed to be the less restrictive stock muffler, albeit a little heavy.

Bottom line, is there a big performance difference between the two mufflers, or will the FMF just be slightly louder and lighter? Also has anyone else ran the FMF header and mid-pipe with the stock muffler? I've read that there may be fitment issues.

The bike will be throatier, more peppy, and it will annoy the neighbors more. I believe it'll help it run cooler as well as there is little resistance in airflow on the fmf.

Well I got the new header and mid-pipe installed today. It took a little longer than expected, but what doesn't? Anyway I've also got the stock muffler mounted up with no problems. The FMF system looks great, especially in titanium, and I can tell that the new mid-pipe will be a lot less restrictive than stock.

Haven't taken it for a ride yet but I fired it up and it had a little deeper and smoother tone than stock. For the price I paid I'm happy. I'll probably keep my eyes open for a good deal on a muffler now. I took a closer look at the stock one though and it looks like it should flow pretty good. The mid-pipe is definitely the most restrictive part of the stock exhaust.
