FMF 4.1 on FE450e

I installed a FMF 4.1 Ti on my 2006 FE450e yesterday. It fits well, but I have a question, after changing the muffler do you typically have to change the jetting, and if so does it need to be jetted more rich or more lean? With the stock muffler the bike was running rich and it made it hard to start after it was warmed up, so if it indeed needs to be richer because of the muffler swap maybe I won't have to re-jet it. But on the other hand if it needs to be leaner I have no idea which jets to use.
And no I didn't swap the muffler in order to avoid having to re-jet the carb. I did the swap because the stock muffler was so quiet that when I'm out riding with my friends, they can't hear my bike and we almost collided.
Any info would be great, thank you for your replies.

me do think that says more about the riders than the bike.

obviously we could try this reason for havng a loud bike when the greenies come to shut down our riding areas.

dont think it will work.

they dont make it for husaberg its the ktm part.

My first thought is that your riding friends are borderline deaf and probably a touch blind as well. :D

If the stock Husaberg muffler was overly restrictive (it really is not), then the general rule when going to a freer flowing muffler would be richer carb settings.

Cypher brings up a good point on sound. The FMF 4.1 Ti is one of the loudest aftermarket mufflers out there. Something to think about.

RE: Re: FMF 4.1 on FE450e

Ahoolsema, the muffler is made for an 05 KTM 450-525XC, I don't remember the part number but when I get back to the house I'll see if I can find it.
Cypher, the greenies will try but we will fight them and win.
Taffy, thanks, and I finally figured out how to get my location on my address but I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I can't seem to get any other info to show up.
Johnf3, you're right, my friends and I are deaf, we have all been in construction since we were kids, so what is loud to you isn't loud to us. Doc says I have 50% hearing loss in my right ear and 35% in my left. I suspect my friends are in the same range. Every other word in our conversations is "WHAT?"
Anyway the 4.1 is on and it doesn't seem any louder to me, but I haven't taken it out yet, so I don't know how it sounds at WOT.
Also we try to ride as far away from civilization as we can, so that we don't bother anyone especially the POS greenies.

geromino_b,

On the issue of sound, very respectfully sir, I understand that you ride as far away from people as possible, I do the same. However, the sound issued has become one of the main tools of the anti access crowd for the elimination of riding on public lands. I have been involved in the land use battles since 1983, and have witnessed the loss of 50% of our riding area's here in California for one reason or another and usually in direct conflict of the scientific studies showing that ohv's had no influence on the reasons given for closing said public lands. Witness the loss of the Barstow to Vegas race.

And now, it appears that their endangered species reasons are drying up, they have turned to the sound issue.

The FMF slip on http://www.fmfracing.com/products/catal ... goryID=280 listed here is the one I believe that you are using on your bike. It says that it is AMA legal which means it meets a 99db sound test. 99db is twice as loud as the current california law of 96db for use on public lands.

This sound law is enforced on us Desert Racers who are miles from anyone by the Feds and the state, and is the result of some of law suits brought by property owners adjacent to public lands in Northern California, I believe that these were property owners adjacent to the El Dorado national forest because of excessively loud ohv's.

In fact, out in Riverside CA, residents there were able to get a ban on people riding on their own property because of excessive sound levels.

And further, for 2009, the sound limit in AMA Supercross and Motocross competition has been lowered to 94db, which is 2.6 times quieter than 99db. This is the same as European FIM competition.

What I am saying is that if you are riding on public lands you should be in compliance with the sound law's. Doing other wise provides the "greenies" with ammunition to close more riding area's. And this also negatively impacts others who are using "their" public land who choose not to enjoy it via motorsports.

I think that in some instances the noise laws suck. Like riding in the middle of the desert, or going to a supercross race on private property where a stick and ball event generates just as much if not more noise. What sucks even more, is that these current sound laws were made retro active, or post de facto, for bikes produced before these laws came into effect, that at the time of their production were legal for use on public lands.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, however, the times have changed, and so have the rules for using public land.

DalEO,
From what I have read, we don't need to provide the greenies with any ammo, because they come up with their own. Since they aren't able to beat us over the head with the endangered species stick, they have come up with a couple of new sticks, sound ordinances, and storm water protection. I'm sure that they have even more to use, once they are done with those. So the idea of treading lightly so as not to upset these liberals is illogical because they don't use logic, they make their decisions based on emotion. They see us as bitter people, holding on to "our religion and our guns". They hate personal freedom and they hate those of us that love it, they will not stop until we are under their control. They are kind of like terrorists that way, and I don't think we should stop fighting them, just because it might make them hate us more, either. I really see no way to resolve this short of hanging them, and as far as I know, that's still illegal. So I guess we just fight each other forever.

One other thing, if they do win and manage to control everything in our lives, do we get to stop paying taxes, since we the people will no longer be represented by our government. If so, we'll be able to buy lots of tea.

Times have changed, but not all change is good, and, by the way, I hate parades. I like riding though.

As far as noise ordinances go, I think that they have their place in and around towns, but out in BFE I think that they are uncalled for. When my friends and I ride any where close to other human beings, we don't rev our bikes, out of courtesy, and so I'm pretty sure that they don't get anywhere near 99dbs, I don't have any way to prove the dbs are low, but they sure seem to be low.

Good night,

Your points are well taken, and I understand your view point.

And out in the open area's I agree with you, it doesn't make much sense. But, because of a few people who don't have the common sense that you and your friends do when riding around people, we are stuck with these noise laws. Personally, I would like to see some kind of noise enforcement on the ridiculously loud harleys I see and hear everywhere.

I do have to, very respectfully disagree with you about treading lightly. IMHO it's not about appeasing the anti access people, it's more about keeping the trails in as good a shape as possible so as to require the least amount of maintenance, and staying on the trail in designated route area's. This was one of the main reasons we lost B to V, there was an area of "critical environmental concern" where you had to ride within a foot of either side of the trail. It was only two miles of the 175, and it was signed heavily, and two riders felt they didn't have to comply with this rule and blatantly outside of the boundry, passing all the people who were riding single file through this short section. Of course the enviro's were there and got there numbers and went crying to the 9th circus court of appeals painting us all as irresponsible blah blah. And with the strike of the judges gavel we no longer had the B to V race. And not staying on the trails in designated route area's by trail poachers has cost us several riding area's.

And I also agree with you about not giving up the fight. I'm still actively involved with the open access fight and contribute regularly to the BRC.

DaleEO,
When I stated my opinion about treading lightly, I should have phrased it differently. I meant that I don't think that we should modify our behavior just to appease our enemies, because that doesn't work, I do not think that we should destroy our environment by purposely riding off trail and ruining natural resources. I think that people should ride responsibly so that we don't leave an eroded torn up country for our children to clean up.
I agree about the Harleys, but we already have sound ordinances around here for them, only they are not enforced. And unfortunately they always seem to be at their loudest right when I'm trying to get my children to sleep.

Geronimooooo...... . . sorry, had to sneeze while I was typing.
