I'm not sure that when racing they logg all that much info. I haven't seen any logging equipment on race bikes. Maybe error codes, like you say, but no major logging like the test I wrote about earlier

From a hardware standpoint, there is likely no difference between a logging ECU and a production ECU. So, you never know... I would guess they are logging the crap out of it.

Then we can agree on that we disagree
I can't imagine they make the production ECUs with so much memory that they can logg hours of running time. Maybe a special ECU with some sort of extra memory unit but no way in the standard one. I'll try to figure that out...

Jocke,

Just add a 2GB SD card and you can log lots of data for a long time (20data points logging at 1000Hz for 1789minutes, that's a whole race season). Micro SD cards are tiny and will likely be able to fit into an ECU box. I recall seeing a production and an R&D ECU at a competitor, and they were identical, though the capability of each was WAY different. This technology has come a long way in the last 20 years!

All true, I give you that.

But. This kind of hardware tend to be not up to standard with the latest digi cameras etc regarding memory interfaces, at least that is my experience.
Maybe I'm wrong about the whole thing, I'll try to find out.

Did you read my post about two Austrians and one Japanese that were here a few weeks ago? What kind of extra capabilities do you think (I'm guessing a really rugged laptop or some sort of logging equipment) were added in the backpack Jocke talked about they made him ride with?

Do you have a link to said post, I'm interested...
Just go to the top of this page 8)
Not so much info really...

Edit: Go to top of PREVIOUS page

Okay, I guess I'm wrong. But, it is likely that the bikes 'puter has a connector that will interface directly with a logging program (could be as easy as a Visual Basic program accepting serial data into hyperterminal which could eventually stuff the bytes into Excel, or a text file). I would guess that the computer could have been smaller, but the only means to log data directly and easily is to simply toss it into a backpack with an umbilical cord attached to the bike. I'm actually surprised that Keihin doesn't have a more sophisticated setup. I know the Magnetti setups are a little better. It just lets us know where they are in their development of FI systems, I guess. I am still very optimistic, as I don't think Husaberg (or better yet, KTM) would deal with bush-league dudes.

with the caption " Hopefully they got the Aussie main bearing fix figured out!"

some how i doubt it.

8 years on old engine and no fix...so why would 09 be any different

the present main has an OD of 62mm and i believe that this needs to go to 72mm. to offset that you have the fact that they are only going to 570cc.

then again - we know that it's a conservative start with only a single model so if that 570 became a 650 we'd wanna know what they'd done!

the secret would be to get the intermediate shaft 10mm higher and still take it's drive off the clutch basket.

i'm a great believer in over engineering things if you have a problem and so i hope that given that they'll NEED greater power outputs than ever (since when did sport go backwards!) that they'll prepare the basic engine for ever greater poweroutputs.

regards

Taffy

Yes we want 650's. or at least get into the 600's somewhere. Then i'll buy. Maybe 2010 or 11 they'll have one and some bugs worked out at the same time with this new bike. You know, first year and all needs a little proving.

for christ sakes why dont you all go slash your wrists !!!! life must be so depressing !

the current new '08 "old engine" has already been fixed from your PIA '05 model

the new 570 will be the same reliability as any other KTM (irrespective of it's blue & white plastics)

come on guys get over it

the new Bergs are reliable !!!!!!!!!!

pull your heads out of the sand and look around

how many long distance racing miles do we have to put on these things before you will believe they wont go bang ?????

If you dont like the damn things then go buy & ride something else !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but the continual whinging and negativity is a big PIA and quitely frankly has totally out grown the novelty value

:(

also the 570 will have 70hp !!!!

how many other enduro's have that output ??? only the 690 rallye motor beats it.

As one of the Berg factory R&D engine guys said............why do you need a 650 when the 570 beats all others anyway ???

its a valid point......................though I still hope a 700cc beast is lurking somewhere on the design board

What does PIA mean in your language? My 05 seems very reliable. I've seen the Doc with the year changes. I just take good care of it and we'll see with time how the motor fairs.

Then the 650 should have close to 80hp when it's made. Great man!! Hey, i'll take a700 also, let me knoiw if you find out more.

Pain In the Arse :D

really the woes of the '04 -'05 models were largely gone by the '06 models and all gone by the '07 - '08 models.............I swear by my '07's and '08s, best thing since sliced bread :D

Hello all

70Hp stay realistic please!!
ok 70hp on the crank but not on the backwheel

But still i am waiting to arrive to I can buy the new 570,and put in in supermotard trim!!!

Gazza not sure why your so defensive but I am only stating the obvious....no good hiding the facts.

I miss my berg and the pleasure of owning something different. They truely are great bikes. But I truly do know that it is not a reliable bike for more than 5000kms hard riding.
We ride in sand sand sand and more sand then we ride white sand (like beach).

I now have a 450 of another brand and 6000kms hard riding and so far no money thrown at it except oil, oil filters and airfilters. Chain and Sprockets.

I have had 2 Bergs one needed new rocker arms and cam bearings at 3000kms and new inlet valves at 5000kms (used motorex valve guard every fill and bpultimate)

The second done 5000kms before the big end started to whine and required a rebuild.

I dont see this as whining but being honest. So that others can make informed choices on what there requirements will be for a bike.

To a guy who rides 800kms offroad a year a Berg may last him a long time but for someone like myself who can clock up to 5000kms offroada year it may not seem like a viable option anymore...

i am very interested in any aussie late model berg owners with their hours and mileage . i need to see proof that the berg motor can match the other brands for reliability .

aussie owners , how long was it before you had to rebuild it ?

or do we just buy them new keep them short term and sell
