Finally - I've chosen an FE 550 '07...............

Congratulations Shonky13,

when I looked at your stats I'm exactly the same height, same weight & same age & have an '06 FE550. Consider a heavier set of springs front & back as by the time you have your boots, helmet, camelback etc you'll weight an extra 10kgs. I also have a set of 25mm bar risers for my height.

Any boots are good boots for now. I just bought an good quality RJays helmet for $230, it looks the part & is light. The whole idea is not to come off right ?

Have fun

I checked out some more of your snow/ice photos Kelsow - and it does look like a great way to burn some fuel..... hope to try it someday.
On the ebay trail as we speak jwilly (boots & pants) - will buy new helmet.
Wildman - do you have heavier springs on your FE550? If so what are the numbers? You're right about the extra 10 kg - I never considered it. As for not coming off - if you don't come off every now and then, how do you know where the limits are?
.....................Oh and please send me an ice box full of big Gladstone mud crabs when you get a chance!! =P~

celtic dude knows his stuff, I have rode his Fe550. put that IRC tire on the back, it's a rock chucker.

bigbob/celticdude - some say the bigger (heavier) tyre increases unsprung weight and can affect handling as a result. What do you reckon?
At my riding level I think I'd be lucky to tell if the stupid thing went flat let alone notice the handling difference from the extra weight...........only one way to find out though and I do like to chuck rocks when the opportunity arises!! Keep the tips coming - I'm finding them interesting and helpful.
