Another option is the Maxxis Hard terrain it runs about 50-60$ I have about 4 hrs on mine in the woods/dirt roads/ and some rocks and have had no knobs tear off. So far it has had good wear characteristics.

I just got new tires for my 501. I went with an IRC on the rear. I can not remember the model# but it is called a volcanduro. Cyclegear had the rears on sale for $29 so it is not a big risk. It looks pretty good. I would say similar tread to the Pirelli mt18. On the front I went with the Maxxis IT. I was wondering if I made a mistake, I was going to get a 90/90/21 like I had but I ended up with a 80/100/21. It is a little narrower with a little taller sidewall. I like the idea of the taller sidewall to prevent pinch flats, but I am not sure if narrower was a good idea. Is anyone else using this sze and or exact tire? Any thoughts. I will not know how it does for a couple more weeks when my shoulder gets well enough so I can ride.

I never buy tires thinking of pinch flats, I install heavy duty tubes and adust my air pressure up 1-2 more psi for rocks when needed.
