Hey Coffin we'll have to get together this winter on ice.We are studding alot of bikes down here right now and waiting for good ice.I'll keep you informed when we get set up and maybe you should give me a buzz when you guys go out.Are you going up to the same spot that Ted was last year?Is Jedi in as well Cheers Bill

I'm curious why you decided to go with the Akro exhaust? And how much was it?

Bill,

Jedi and I actually discussed doing another ice ride when I picked up my bike this week. The whole idea was to invite you, NSman, Kelsow and your mates for a weekend up north.

I know that Jedi is game but I will be pushing my luck to disappear for another weekend and leave mom with the newborn :( We will see what happens. I told Jedi that if we did do something that I would prefer it was as late as possible.....end of February...first of March. Accommodations would be where you stayed before with a short drive to the lake where we built the track last year...same place as Ted rode with us.

Dale,

I went with the Akro because there was one there when I picked up the bike and it looked like forbidden fruit to me :D Really, I wanted one all along. Trick exhaust for a trick bike! Less weight...more power

Fryguy told me the Akro makes another 4hp? on the 450. I'm not sure what it does for the 550 and 650. The one you see in the pic is just the slip on. 25% less weight than stock. I plan on buying the Akro headers which require a different can. I have to save some more pennies first.

I think that retail price in USD is around $600 for the slip on. The Akro Titan headers (35% less weight) are around $750 and the matching silencer is around $550. You would have to contact one dealers to confirm those prices.

Cheers

Thanks for the info Coffin,

I also understand that the akro cans have an insert that is removable. Do you happen to know what the db level is supposed to be with the insert in? And, the power numbers you talk about with the insert in? And are you running yours with the insert?

Thanks,

Dale,

Not sure about the sound levels or the insert. To be honest, I have not had time to really look at it that close yet.

The bike has only been started and idled for a few minutes. I did one lap around my friends driveway and then shut it down because it was a sheet of ice and I did not want to drop it. It is winter wonderland here. The hour meter reads 0.1 hours on it!

As soon as I get the ice tires mounted and and the jetting sorted it out I will take it to the lake a post a ride report.

It definitely sounds sweet with the Akropovic. Now all I have to do is clean my friends drool of it!

On a side note...a local guy who just bought a new Honda CRF450 saw my new 550 Berg. He seemed depressed when he left

I know that look. A friend with a Gasgas ec300 had the same look after he rode mine.

I agree, you can't go wrong with Dale's jet kit. He installed one on my '05 FE550 last week and the bike runs flawlessly. :D

Me too! I wouldn't fool around with the jets, just order Dale's kit & be done with it.

The Akro ex adds 4 hp with the full system on a 450 with the insert. All the factory bikes run the full system and all have to meet the 94 db spec at all FIM events, and they do. My 450 in Slovakia had only the slip on, and tested 88 or 89 with me sitting on the bike. Of course the testing conditions were no where near perfect and I was sitting on the bike, which is a no no to get a true sound test, it kill intake noise, especially on the berg. I was cheating, but no one offered me the opportunity to get off!!!

Fry,
I asked you about jetting with the Akro when we talked the other day. I'd like to get some more input on what the impact is for set up. You mentioned moving the clip only. Up, down, sideways? Testing routine?Care to confirm?

bloody hell the jetting guru is going to give a lesson!

sit down everyone and gather all ye freinds around ye olde camp fire!

and look pray tell: here comes a bloke from el somewhere carrying frank and making no sense!

Taffy

PS. incase you're sensitive types i've mimicked a film and a rather famous nativity scene. only some people need it spelt out. you know how it is, films don't travel fast in the far flung regions of the empire!

Ok now we are going to talk in acronyms are we, you old FDE!!!

On a more serious note, I never did pull the carb apart on that bike to check jetting, it worked so I wasn't going to mess with it.

Search for some of Taffy's rants about jetting. You may have to have a pint or two to put the lingo into perspective, as his hip and your jive won't comingle. But he speaks volumes about how to jet and get it down perfectly. And in the end you, yes you Coffin, might actually learn something.

Enough smack talk on Christmas eve, cheers to both of you and have a Merry Ho Ho.

Fry,

Undeserved cheap shot retracted. I'll try to think of more appropriate ways to make you blush. Thanks for all your input.
