FE450e is NOT a Desert bike

Sorry if I offended ya. Didn't mean to, just that narrow powerbands are usually associated with 2 strokes. Guess I'll rephrase that to surprised it has such a narrow powerband. Looks like nice riding!

Hi Dan,
The short cam, wide gear spacing and 250 pound plus pilot provides for a narrow "useable" power range. Said range being near the middle.

Larger displacement, closer gearing and / or a smaller pilot does a good job of masking the true nature.

BB knows the real deal, is satisfied with such and has provided great insight regarding the power characteristics of late model Husaberg engines in general.

Best Regards,
Dale

If you did not re -jet from clear creek, you were more than likely rich at this altitude. I was at the 06 Berg test in Hungry valley Nevada( my back yard} and rode all three bikes and turned my best time on the 450. I do have a 05 fc 550 with the 6 speed as it is a awesome motor. The 450 will haul *** if jetted lean. The 450 almost needs the 13 counter but who cares with a 6 speed? We even had some sections that we hit 85 mph on the seven mile loop. I think your boat like body would bog down a 750 so I do not buy that the 450 cant handle the desert.
Call Jenny Craig for your hop up kit and you will be just fine!

Hi Mark,

I hope you know BB and the above a friendly poke. If not I find your remarks to be in poor taste.

I thought his post was on the harsh side and definitely not in context. If you are that big and fail to mention that, after saying that a 450 is not able to cut the mustard in the desert then that must be what provoked the the response. I go 205 and that bike was able to get me a 2nd place at the elsinore gp a few years back. That was the 35+ expert class in stock form. And if that is not a fast race I do not know what is? Husabergs need all the context possible when being knocked on.
Your point was made, but so was mine.
Sorry.

it's all good, I took no offense. I do sense now that a little leaner is better for my bike's power production, like Taffy said one step at a time. but right now I'm happy, I'm not so rich that it boggs or nothing , runs sweet for me in all situations. I did have to dial in the fuel screw another 1/2 turn. I think I'm at 1 turn now so yes Summer temps are coming and I'll mess with it again, go with a smaller pilot jet soon, I'm at 48 I'll go with a 45 and maybe up one clip too once we hit the hott days.

I already said my post title was too strong, but I stand by my ride impressions. I may be a C rider but I ride EVERY weekend usually Sat and Sunday. I have test rode many 04,05 and 06 bikes. I like that Fe550 in the desert. I love my Fe450 in the woods, but not so thrilled in the desert with it. I ride my Te510 in the Nevada desert

Bob, I was to strong also with my post. All I can say is you will not lock up the new motors being to lean in all likelihood. I move the needle two positions in one shot when it warms up like this and two numbers on the main with no worrys at all. The 450 is geared to tall, as I recall it had a 14-48 combo and if rich it will not pull it well in any condition. You will need to shift a little more with the 13 but that is fine with a six speed. Even with the 13 that bike will probably pull 85 or 90mph. You can get that 450 to sing if you just take a little time and lean it out. I had over a hundred motos on mine and I ran it hard and lean all the time before I missed a shift at Honeylake wfo in forth gear and toasted a few gears at one time. The piston and other parts still looked awesome with over 160 hrs of 50% race hrs on it. My 05 550 is geared down as well with a 14 /48 from a 15 and it still has more top end than Dolly Parton
