Hi all, does anyone have or know of a good Husaberg Vin# decoding list? My FE501 vin is YU7FE5010 with an "L" as the 10th character. Also what do the last 3 digits represent? Any help appreciated!

L means 1990.
From 1989 starting with 'K' they went through the alphabet leaving out the 'O' and the 'U' until in 2000 it was the 'Y'.
In 2001 they went to '01' and then it was easy to follow.

Frame colours;
Blue = 1989-1991
Grey = 1992
Light Blue = 1993
Yellow = 1994-1996
Mid-Blue = 1997-1998
Silver = 1999
1989-1994. If I spent some time on this I could check for external differences but I haven't so.....

The way to tell is that every year from 1995-2000 is because they all had clear visual differences on the engine.
1989-1995 last year no oil pump so a little black plastic bung behind the cylinder
1996 first year oil pump and proper alloy cover behind the cylinder. last year of base gasket under barrel. short seat.
1997 last year of Ohlins rear shock. longer seat.
1998 last year of linkage but with WP shock. Last year black plastic ignition cover.
1999 first year PDS rear suspension and alloy ignition cover with inspection bung on it.
2000 first year of hydraulic clutch actuation. Completely new frame, fuel tank which continue for 3 more years. last year of the water pump on the head.
1996-2000 electric start is in front of the engine.

there are some frame references somewhere.

I put "The Owner's Doc" together but Zen not only removed my name from it, he makes it appear to be his work too. We're not sure if Zen is running the site or someone new?

Hello Taffy,
A quick note to thank you for taking the time to reply and help me confirm the year of my FE501 as a 1990. Now that I have decided to sell the project bike and parts I wanted to be accurate in listing the year. Hate to abandon the project but facing double knee replacement and the circus of life I have had to admit that this just ain't gonna happen for me. Hope to pass it along to someone younger and less stove up that can do something with it and enjoy / conserve a cool piece of history. BTW the link to your Ebay store appears to be broken. Thanks again and regards, David

PS, I notice you hail from England, do you do anything with Royal Enfields? I have a `98 500 Bullet with 85 miles on it & am pondering the feasibility of an electric start conversion. DC.

I'll look at the link. We only just closed Ebay to selling abroad and also closed the shop on Ebay. they take so much in commision we were working for Ebay!

I know nothing of the 'bullets'. Glad to help!

Taffy
