FE450e 2004 dies on throttle and starts again

I don't think so. Moved needle up and down same thing happened. Sparkplug color is dark brown...

Coil breakdown under load???????? Just because it has spark does not say that it has enough, just a thought.

I have measured resistance on coil and was ok. Could coil turn off completely under load as you are saying?

you shouldn't really be going by the plug colour. look down the back of the tailpipe.

Yes a coil can break down under load. Checking the resistance is good but you also need to check spark with a tester not the plug. I have seen many drivers in pcm's go and still see spark on the plug. It is like punching, you can put your arm out and bump or you can throw your arm out and strike hard. A coil works the same way it drives the voltage/amperage and without enough the fuel will put out the spark.

Plugs do tell a tale of what is going on, how the fuel is burning, what is burning and how hot the burn is. The plug will tell you if the fuel is being burnt correctly or at all. Exhaust tells tales as well.

Did you run the machine without the muffler???? You said the flow was good. How did you check the muffler, did you take it apart? If the header is clear then taking a quick ride without the muffler will rule a plug under heat and load. I still think you are having a flow issue if everything else has checked out, and it runs good then under load dies like its starving something and my guess is not fuel. Spark and or flow or something is loose in the harness and rattles loose. possibly a ground wire?

New coil on the way. We will see if that would change anything...
Reading spark and exhaust color is not most accurate way to adjust carb but it can tell you if you have to rich or to lean condition.
Yes i did take apart entire exhaust and checked with boroscope camera...

Hi Abarth,

From the perculiar symptoms you have explained, if it were me, I'd be having a good look at your CDI unit, purely from the fact that it will not start until the engine completely stops (and therefore losing its voltage input). The coil replacement is not a bad idea, I agree with FE350 in principal. Combustion pressure under load will create a resistance for your spark, and electrical charge always takes the easiest path to ground, although I would expect it to 'miss' and not necessarily cut out.

FWIW and with all respect to everyone else's thoughts, I don't think it has anything to do with your valves, nor the fuel supply as you say it is intermittent? If it was valves, it would be hard to start period. If fuel had a blockage, surely it wouldn't fire straight up again now would it? A blocked exhaust will 'choke' the engine and it won't rev out.

Anyway, hope this gives you another angle to think about it.

Good luck

Damo
