Hello,

I have a big problem with my old bike. I just want to keep alive it but i can not solve common bog problem.

Everything is stock. Stock carb and exhaust. Carb was cleaned.

Keihin FCR MX41
Needle: OBDVR Clip 6
Mian Jet: 182
Iddling Jet: 40
Main Air Jet: 200
Idle air jet: 100
Starting Jet: 85

I tried to adjust ap timing, installed o-ring mod, changed clip position. I dont have any needle or jets to change right now.

I need some suggestion to fix this. I am starting the bike on choke and it is starting so easy with kick start. No bog with choke. it is working perfect but when turn choke off, bike is starting bogg when whack the throttle and it is stopping.

Where do i have to start from?

Thanks

FE450 does not have FCR 41
He has FCR 39

Do you have fresh fuel?
What is the air temperature at your place?

Hello but mine is FCR41 i am sure. i checked it many times. I am going to check again.
Sea Level 3C

If you don't have any air (vacuum) leaks.
Then probably you have to lean jetting.

I ride with the same conditions like yours (low temp.) and I need to change pilot jet from 40 to 42
Clip position from 6 to 7.

Hello i dont have any air leak. Bike is working so easy with kick start hot or cold. My dealer has not pilot jet . Also asked. To ktm and kawa. :(

Hello Blamir

there is no way you should have a 182MJ in there!!!!

a 162MJ yes but not a 182 OK?

your bog is probably because of old fuel, the carb needs a really good clean and 'reverse blow' down all the air holes.

then you need an extended pilot screw. then adjust plus (usually) one turn or sometimes in a little.

I sell the jets if tyou have a problem sourcing them?

taffy

450 has a standard 182 main jet

I also ride with 182mj and it's ok.

162 is good for 650ccm from what I know

it should have a 168-165MJ in there if there are no other changes. the PJ should be a 42.

what do you know then Hacker?

Hello Taffy,

Thanks for answer. I look at your ebay store and jetting kit a bit expensive for me right now. I need some another advice :)

I cleened carb and setted bowl level. Adjusted ap timing by manual and tried oring method. Pump squirting fuel like a mad :) . No way. They did not solve my problem. Also tried to open fuel screw 3 turn it was the same bog.

I rocerded a video.

What do i have to order right now? Only iddle jet? Main Jet? Needle? Ap diagram? Spring?

Thanks.

yes the overly rich 182 mj is stock, but the needle is lean to compensate. when you say the needle is in position 6, is the clip in the bottom or top?
test to see how far out the pilot fuel screw is from full cw. if 2 turns or less, try ccw 1/2 turn to richen up a bit and see if any different. if 2 1/2 plus turn cw 1/2 turn. play around with that screw to get better results.
at 3c, it will need to be richer (ccw) than it would at a warmer temp.

Hello ned37

Needle clip at 6th bottom at richest position. How fuel screw makes richer? If it full close, is it richest? Becouse i tried it with severel turns. 1.5 , 2 , 3 turns out. It is too hard to set with bike working.

Thanks.

does it bog when you ride it? I bet it doesn't!!!!

I've seen them where the valves are bent and they have been like that. it seems also to 'rattle' quite a lot?

try doing it with the air filter off.

But if valves are bent, hasnt it to be compression? Bike is at about 200 hours and stock. It had been riden on fast trail rides. Maybe time to top end? What is your suggestions?

I am going to clean and adjust float level again today. All parts one by one and slowly.

Thanks.

Man, the way that thing is acting in your vid, it seems like it's running very lean, tight valves or maybe cam timing is off?

most bikes cough if the slide is opened too quickly at low rpm, mine certainly does

a diagnostic "fix" is to try more fuel volume from the pump squirt

if everything is functioning normally maybe inspect the slide parts there is an oring in there that can fail

I don't think its your problem but try an EKR needle, someone should have one laying around

I can get my bike to cough when it's sitting there, but once out riding, it never does, not even on tight slow trails when I gas it....:(

that engine is rattling!

slightly bent valves will do what is happening to your bike. the trouble is, they can break a valve spring which the owner replaces. he looks at the valve and says that it 'looks OK' but they are bent.

then they sell the bike because they don't want to remove the head again and they don't know what is wrong.

bent valve is my best shot. with a 182MJ you shouldn't have a bog anywhere.

it certainly won't be the slide plate and the rubber O ring and it won't need a squirt of fuel.

regards

Taffy
