hi guys,my name is paul and i am from Greece. this is my first post and i hope that anyone of you would be kind enough to help me.
i own a 95 fe 600 sm which has an 38mm dellorto vhsb.
it runs great but has a significant problem in starting when the engine is cold and the enviroment's temp. is below 10 celcius degrees.
i have read all about dellorto carbs in ducatimeccanica.com and also the hard starting guide.
the bike never starts with the choke lever pulled, it starts only with the following procedure: 3 kicks with choke on and 3 kicks with choke off.
note that i follow these steps many times so as to get it started in the above mentioned temperature.
when the husa is warm it only needs 1 kick to start wiyh the choke off.
when idling if i pull the choke on it dies.
the settings of the carb are these mentioned in manual and never been changed (it idles great).
valve clearance is according to factory, so is the sparkplug.
i clean the carb and air filters very often.
decompression is perfectly adjusted.
my guess is that the starting jet is a bit lean, can anyone more experienced than me (this is my first husa, bought it second handed at may 2004) help me?

I am no expert but it sounds like you are very close to ideal and only minor adjusting is needed. In my experience if the idle is set too low and the fuel screw is not properly adjusted it will give you grief. I would try raising the idle a bit and the adjust your fuel screw for maximum RPM.

My next guess is that the pilot may be too big as when you use the choke when warm it dies. Plus the fact that it will even start with the choke off when cold.

If you get absolutely no deceleration popping, going down one size on the pilot would be my second step. My first would be to get a rebuild kit as the needle and seat may be worn (more than 200 hours on it?) allowing seepage resulting in a rich condition.

thanks a lot for the tips, very kind of you.
i will try it as soon as snow stops covering my berg, my house, my sisters car e.t.c.
thanks again man!
