Fe 570 wash outs??

Hi guys I'm considering buying a FE 570 and converting it to a Motard for street riding, yet I keep finding threads stating they are prone to washing out due to no weight up the front end, Any thoughts Fellas? Cheers Pete B
 
Yes its a strange but commonly bought up topic, you'd think a sticky front tyre, triple clamps and correct shock up grades would be fine, but I know if I owed a bike that was prone to doing such a thing I'd be selling it regardless of the cult following, They are saying its due to the motor and fuel tank set up, if anything the motor is contributing more weight forward at 70" although I can understand the fuel side of things with the fuel tank being under the seat hence less weight forward..
 
Well of course Peter there is one thing we can absolutely gaurantee here isn't there, you know 1,000% as the Yanks like to say and that is that someone has really looked into this properly and not just 'bench raced' right?

so listen to the guy that can tell you the really, really, really easy things (because they have looked into this right - that's why they have a big mouth) like, the weight of the bike in real life, then the ratio front and back.

I trust you would never listen to anyone who hasn't said anymore than a J. Arthur Pewty like 'it's dead proper sh** innit mate!'

Never heard or persally had that problem. In fact, if a bike was prone to washing out like that, then surely it would be much more prevalent on low grip surfaces - - like say dirt...? And by all accounts the FE 390-450-570 are good enduro/dirt machines.

70 degree Berg Front Washout

I totally agree with Taffy (and I'm a Yank!). 2 1/2 years ago I moved up from a Japanese 250 to a 70 degree (mine is a 2011 FE390, but same basic bike as the 570). I have not experienced any problem with front washout - in fact my riding has taken a step up in performance and confidence. I'm a geezer in my 60s and don't ride fast or aggressively, but I ride in some serious terrain below and above timberline in Colorado - up / down, hard surfaces, big rocks, gravel, water crossings - you name it (But I do HATE mud). My front stays planted with Dessert Maxis ITs and with Pirelli MT43s (the only tires I've run so far). Maybe the 570 is too much bike for some people - a serious wheelie machine (my riding partner has one. (I've ridden it... in the air the front wheel seems to have less traction! :>)

I have no idea where these crazy ideas get started, but talk to actual owners. in fact, I suppose that is what your are doing here on the forum. Thanks to all who contribute!!! Long live the 70 degrees (shameless fanboy)! - Husageezer
 
Cheers for all the positives fellas, Its all about the research before pouring money into a project, especially if it could possibly be an unsafe one, The FE 570s were designed for dirt, Hence my relevant question ( Not Insult) about the bikes handling on road after a Motard conversion.
 
PS! the wash out interest, questioning, research only started upon joining this site and an owner rider of 2 Husabergs here suggested they do so upon Motard conversion, Enjoy ya weekend :)

I have 3 70* Bergs. I have a FX450 converted to motard. I raced it at MVTC, Winton and Broadford last year. It washes out in the front. I lost the front on one bend at Winton. Broken ribs.

XTrig triples to correct the offset, suspension settings maxed. Sags set.

I went to Broadford to race but during practice a crack in the exhaust burnt the loom. Another mate with a FC450 fell and broke his collar bone. I ended racing the FC. Instantly 2 secs a lap quicker. Another mate who just won the Hartwell motorcycle club motards and second in the supermono swapped bikes. He stated it was bad in the front end. His YZ was amazing. Very planted.

Forks serviced and uprated for enduro by Kroozetune.

Clowns quoting “bench racing” are just that.

Both the FC and the YZ were bone stock std, only motard wheels.

As I have mentioned previously, talk to the suspension specialists that specialise in motard and follow their recommendations.

Thanks a bunch Alan, I'm up for any input pos or Neg, I'm looking for possible flaws in the bike, not ones character :) And well said cobber,, Paul at MPE has come back with supply and fit fork oil seals, stiffer rate fork springs, rework the compression, mid valve and rebound damping, valving shims front and rear along with rear gas at a great price if I go ahead with the project, Cheers for the tip mate.. Pete

Cheers mate. MPE are very good. Did they recommend lower offset to bring back some trail? For serious motard they are running down to the single figures ie 6mm.
 
Not as yet Alan, he will go more in depth if the project kicks off mate, just running the numbers on suspension, Moto Master Brakes up front and Motard rims, tyres sprockets etc, Getting that knee down on a converted Dirt Bike, Who would have thought back in the day when riding an old Elsinore :)

the point at the beginning you made pete was: "washing out due to no weight up the front end". nobody else has repeated that here because the 570 is infact a heavy bike and the extra weight is all at the rear and the front is actually standard. it's a heavy bike unfortunately.

as for the usual insults, it's his full time job here.

The good thing buying a FE570 is that if you regret buying it you can easilly sell it. If you want all your money back sell it as enduro and put the motard parts on next bike or sell them on the side.

That pic is with Dallas a mate of mine on my 450. He just won the Hartwell club motard and second in the supermono. I was on his YZ. My 450 is putting out 58hp. His YZ eats it! :eek:
 
I rode my FE570 for the first few months in SM trim and noticed no ill handling. Of course I’m an old fat trail rider and never pushed the bike anywhere near the edge on the street. For typical “street” riding/commuting I think a converted FE would be fine, for racing I would defer to the experts. With the dirt wheels back on, I can confidently say the thing is great off road, which is where I do have experience.
