FE 501e Cam Shaft.

I was repairing a leaky rocker cover on my 1998 FE 501e and upon inspection found that the exhaust cam lobe is worn and the case hardening has come off it. Also the cam followers are worn as well. I can get a good s/hand cam shaft for a 1998 501 but it is out of an FC, does anybody know if this is going to cause me trouble as for fitting it? or does the cam shaft duration not suit the FE engine? Also I was reading in some of the galleries and taffys info download that there was a rocker arm and cam follower bearing upgrade that was a factory mod, can this upgrade be carried out on my older bike? and can the parts still be purchased to do this mod?
Thanks

the camshaft will be just fine! if it's the same then all well and good and if it produces more power etc then it'll fit straight in anyway, they design them to do that.

regarding the follower mod? well joeusa or husabutt may help here amongst others.

Older Bergs generally used an A cam in the electric start Enduros and a C cam in the FC. A cam is milder lift and duration. 97 FC models started using the B cam which cut back on the duration of the C cam to increase bottom end. 98 FC is a smooth motor and uses an auto decompressor, so you should be ok. Were really no rocker issues in 98, I would repair the worn rollers and go. 96 was the bad year for old motor rockers (they were breaking due to poor material).
