I just bought a fe 501 2002. It takes forever to start it, but it`s worth it every time The starter, of course, does not work. The kick starter is weird too. With most bikes, from my experience, you push it to the hard bit, use a bit of decompression, then kick it and you are good to go! This bike, the kick is so easy that I don`t need to use decomp at all. But as it is not low on power AT ALL, I`m guessing it`s not the piston rings. The compression seems to be fine, the bike goes like hell, IF you manage to start it I`ve spoken to a buddy of mine and he says that the decompression might be stuck and is always on. Has anyone ever encountered that? Or might it be something else?
