FE 501 2002 sticky decomp?

Hi :) I just bought a fe 501 2002. It takes forever to start it, but it`s worth it every time :D The starter, of course, does not work. The kick starter is weird too. With most bikes, from my experience, you push it to the hard bit, use a bit of decompression, then kick it and you are good to go! This bike, the kick is so easy that I don`t need to use decomp at all. But as it is not low on power AT ALL, I`m guessing it`s not the piston rings. The compression seems to be fine, the bike goes like hell, IF you manage to start it :D I`ve spoken to a buddy of mine and he says that the decompression might be stuck and is always on. Has anyone ever encountered that? Or might it be something else?

Hi

Usually it's the other way, usually it's a too soft spring.

It's easy to check, just open it !

The hard starting can be a lot of things, or a sum of a lot of things, when everything is right this bikes start first kick

I would think so too, but it definitely is just the starting that`s problematic. It runs very well, no hick ups :) I`ll try checking the spring, thanks :)

Hi

Just try to raise the idle rpm a bit and see if it starts better.

Some times is just what it takes

your ignition timing may need adjusting.

look through the site window on the ignition cover and look for a white lin e on your stator in the lower half of the hole. this white line whould be 1mm to the LEFT OF CENTRE.

the other thing that comes to mind is the carb, it is probably worn and needs new bits.
