Hello all I started this conversion last year and finally fitted it a month ago ,I am running the following jets
MJ 158 , PJ 40 ,1.5 turns out of pilot screw
EKR needle on slot 4
I have made an adaptor for both the filter side and the cylinder head flange which I have made air tight using o rings.
The bike started better than it ever did with the dellorto second kick from being newly fitted and ran like a dream ,really smooth tick over ,until I pushed the choke in ,it worked like a switch and the motor cut out at once ,when revved harder it will just about keep running but seems to be running very weak , I don't think that I have an air leak between the head and carb as I had the same problem using a straight adaptor fitted inside the original Yamaha WR 400 rubber stub.
Any ideas it really did run so well on choke I am loathed to return to the Dellorto

Cheers Puggy

sounds like a possible air leak to me,mine did the exact same thing, sprayed some wd-40 around the intake boot where it meets the cylinder head and found the problem.I dont think o rings are the way to go.Ii used some gasket sealer to seal it off and cant really do anything more till the weather breaks and I can do a road test.It does Idle well and in fact started on the button, cold! Its never done that before.I usually kick start cold, like yesterday,2nd kick my icy foot slipped off the kickstarter and cost me 10 stiches in the back of my knee!Word of advice,ALWAYS wear protection, off work for another week! 98 fe 600

you must start by turning the idle up and up till it runs. then make sure you have cable slack.

then after this you should get it warm and play with the pilot screw under the carb.

you may need to blow the two jets out in the front face of the carb.
