Just after a bit of info. I have an 08 650 in a mx sidecar running an external oil cooler. I was told I need an extra litre of oil on top of the 800 in the engine. The trouble im having is popping waterpump seals. I let it idle on start up for a few minutes to allow cooler to fill but to no avail.How do you get around this?
Cheers in advance

your probably using the all rubber seal 10 x 18 x 4. go back to OEM and they have an alloy rim which means they have to be pressed in - hard!

if you're ripping the lip then that is down to your technique!

the engine holds 1,000cc from dry and 900cc in a regular change.

the sidecarX boys have a habit of leaning the engine forwards and the sight glass then becomes redundant. you then have the oil drainage problem: do you flush the 600-1,000cc of oil out the cooler every time? difficult one.

do you have the traditional oil cooler or a hedgehog?

for excellent advice if they will give you it write to "Millard Motorhomes" down in Somerset. they ran them for 8 years at GP level.

in the absence of any obvious mechanical issue with the water pump shaft water side seal;

consider leaky head gasket and/or a rad cap that isn't venting properly

also note the water level spec is only to cover the cores in the upper tank by 10mm

not sure how a water leak would be related to an oil cooler ?

best seal for the water pump job is out of a KTM 65 pn 46035056100, soft silicone rubber outer with a full steel core
