Looking for some advice on buying rims on ebay. My 99 fe 400 has a 2.15x18" rear rim. is this size universal for all the fe models? Looking to buy another rear wheel to put a dot approved tire on it so that if i want i can ride it to work during the week and save my offroad tire for the weekends offroad. My understanding of the hub is that the hubs are the same inside diameter and you make up for the different axel size with the bearings. is this true? then of course we have the problem of the chain on the wrong side.......LOL when the seller list the rim they usually only list the bike it is off of. i know I would be best to stick with a rim off of a berg, but they are few and far between it seems. does anyone know if any year husky or ktm or any other makes are compatible with my bike. I know there are alot of variables and i hate to make a post everytime i see a rear wheel on ebay asking if it is compatible. so if anyone can give me the specifics on what to look for,it would be appreciated.

We had a customer bring in a rim which he purchased on ebay...he stated that the spokes kept braking...his bike is a KTM and according to the person he purchased the wheel from, the wheel was KTM too...approx same year and model...anyway, he called ahead and asked if I could look at his newly purchased ebay KTM complete wheel and see if I could tighten, true, whatever to keep the spokes from breaking.

Customer came in and apparently not knowing what to look for, didnt notice how each of his spokes had a nice arc to them...he purchased a KTM hub however the seller half-assed laced it to some odd-ball hoop. That being said, the money he saved went to us to buy spokes, a new hoop, re-lace and true. This whole ordeal probably ended up costiing him more than buying a complete wheel set with all new parts from a dealer.

Bottom Line....BEWARE...

Yes indeed beware, anyone need a new talon rear wheel set-up for a 95 - 02 KX that is what I recieved as a " KTM " wheel on e-bay.
