engine numbers before 2004

till 2003 the motor numbers were on the right leg side and consisted from 7 digits, concrete example: 4013198. this is a real number on an engine from FE400e with a sleeve and water pump down (not on camshaft). That means it is younger than 2000. But I am not able to determine the exact year of production. I guess, it can only be 2001 or 2003, because there is no "2" between the seven numbers, which could mean 2002. Tell me which year it is and why. The guide for this is not in the owners docs, only for models 2004 and younger. Thanks a lot.

Since i have a 2003 Fc550 i could make a guess. Mine has 5533111, probably 553 stands for your cc, 401 for you.
Followed by year a single 3 and a 3 digit number for serial. But i could be very wrong... :roll:

Thanks for answer, after my search in the meanwhile, I can say you are probably right, the fourth digit is most likely the year of production.

picking up on this, I am trying to find out what tuning work my 600 engine has had done.
but there are 3 numbers on the barrel/crank cases. one of which is the job number for the tuning.

there are 2 numbers on the cases starting

1121***
2200***

can anyone shed any light on these.

have a 650 that I belive is 2003 or 2004 and a 501 that should be a 1999
