Donde esta Dale Lineaweaver?

Tired indeed, however, we kept going until we finally made the show @ VIR.

Stern advice from the Godfather (AKA Rocky MT]

I could not agree more, Ken.
Dale might be fumbling out there, but at least he's trying.
Just goes to show that we all have a lot to learn.
Please pass on my best wishes

Cheers,
Brett

For the record:
I do indeed make mistakes, however ,"I do not Fumble".
Neither do I run away and hide when the going get's tough.

I simply suck it up, put my head down and lean forward.

Hi Dale,
Glad to have you back on the forum, sounds like you had quite an adventure!Did you have a road accident with your race van/trailer?.All these challenges and it was sinking hot as well!Congrats on your AMA comp appointment...good on ya!

RE: Re: Donde esta Dale Lineaweaver?

Yea I did,was that a handicap,it also said in your entry that you were on Michelin .

Re: RE: Re: Donde esta Dale Lineaweaver?

Hi Nsman,
In transit and already more than a full day behind schedule I wrecked my van and trailer. Said accident cost us yet another day. We made Mid Ohio just in time to blow up during Superbike qualifying.

Yes, an engine I built blew up.

Sunday VIR we opted to scratch Superbike as Superstock and Superbike were placed back to back in anticipation of rain. Dropping Superbike seemed logical since we had only one bike.

Right.

No listing for Laguna.

DNS race 1&2 Mid-Ohio

Regarding Laguna Seca and not wishing to tempt fate:
We qualified, however, opted to scratch the race. The engine was running hot consequently sending the ECU into default protection mode after only three or four good laps.

In addition Kenny had already experienced a 100 MPH get off in turn eleven.

Regarding Mid Ohio:
Ventilated an engine during Superbike qualifying.

RE: Re: Donde esta Dale Lineaweaver?

Hi Dale,
Great to hear it form the horse's mouth, so to speak. Guess that puts an end to all of the fun speculation. lol. Congrats on the ama board appointment. I thought those ama people didn't like you? Kind of saw you as a thorn in their side? Sounds like you will have lots of fun with moto politics at the top levels. lol.

What is it that the other bikes have that they are achieving 20-30 more horse power? I guess the yamaha claimed 175 hp for the r1 engine is bogus, and amounts to just good marketing. Have you found this new race environment and equipment much more of a challenge than your prior racing experiences? Are you doing total bike tuning, both engine and chassis/suspension? Sorry for all the questions. It is just that I am really curious, since I know you, and you guys are running in the major leagues as far as American moto racing. I know you guys will succeed.

Re: RE: Re: Donde esta Dale Lineaweaver?

Hi Brendan,

Regarding the AMA:
As I mentioned a few months earlier "AMA Pro Racing" has been completely cleared of all dead wood.

The Difference:
Development time, money, keen knowledge of Superstock rules and how to bend them.

Facts:
A slick reduces RWHP figures on average some seven horse.

The stock bike netted 148 RWHP. Modified 155.
Add a slick and you are 141 and 148.

Through the slick we made near 155 for Ohio.
A top fifteen Superstock bike makes 165 to 168 through the slick.
A factory Superstock bike makes 170 plus.

Our VIR bike made 150 RWHP through the slick. Five down from our Mid Ohio engine which failed as a result of insufficient deck clearance.

Greed:
In my quest for more I became a bit greedy with the deck clearance. I learned the hard way contact takes place @ .6mm (.023") when turned to 13, 850 RPM. For the record
.65mm (.026") is safe.

Our bike ran and handled quite well. It was simply down on peak power.

I made a big mistake:
The real difference in peak power was me not catching a rule book loop hole allowing for radius valve seat work.

Quite simply the AMA states the head must remain stock with exception of milling.

Albeit too late in the game for us I learned seat work was indeed tolerated. (A highly controversial topic and as a result never openly discussed).

Such work often provides an additional 10% to 15% in peak power.

My Job:
The entire bike.

Tuning:
Physics are the same applied to tarmac or dirt.

Fun facts:
European specification Superstock and US Superstock are quite different contributing heavily to our teething problems.

BHP = Brake Horsepower (derived from the engine minus drivetrain losses)
The R1 does indeed make some 175 BHP stock.

Hope this has answered your questions and thank you very much for being interested.

Kind Regards,
Dale

RE: Re: RE: Re: Donde esta Dale Lineaweaver?

Can you explain how a slick reduces RWHP please?

Different circumference?

DynoJet "Moment of Inertia" Dynamometers are considered industry standard. Rotating mass is part of their horsepower equation.

Slicks are heavy with the bulk of their mass concentrated a great distance from the wheels axis. Such considerably increases the wheels " Moment Of Inertia" with a resulting loss of "indicated" horsepower.

Also of great consequence is a slicks ability to provide a friction coefficient greater than one.

In short it takes a lot of power to turn a good slick. :)

Dale

Dead?
Too stubborn and mean to die.

Is he still upset because of the Takis incident?
Not at all. I carry no grudge.

FYI:
The "Takis" incident happened to coincide with a close family members botched attempt @ suicide. I had alot on my plate at the time and a bit of rage spilled over to UHE. My apologies.

Or he's just not into Husabergs, now?
As with "Dirttrack" Husaberg shall always have a place close to my heart.

Or we stink?
Yes, a handful of you do indeed "Stink". You know who you are.

Rest assured Frog, present company is excluded. You sir are a true gentleman.
