Does one sell a berg

On the topic.
After selling my 05 Fe 650 and keeping my 06 Fe650 I went about a year with regret building up. I really should have kept it.
Which is why I sought after and bought my 07 Fe550.
Now I have 550 and 650 and am content.

Well my mum Is Danish and I have some Swedish blood, I am impressed that Sweden made such a bike but that's were it ends and I am on about as for the bikes built before 2008 I am just on about the bike and what it is.

I would say that the 2006 on were the best of them all and that the 650 just has to be the best 650 in the world without a doubt, nothing comes close to such a animal, just who can come along and poo poo that fac.

The bell billet crank is the best of all cranks and that has to be the best 650 ever, because it's reliable as, not to mention the other cranks have nothing on them for reliability and this was the problem not to mention electrical of the older ones, and the reason I steered clear of the Bergs, crank bearing problems and electrical not to mention the price hear in Australia, I thought that the problems were sorted when I bought my 2008 but :furious: that she did a main bearing, but gladly Orangeberg is the man who knows what the problem is and can sort it out, so I took it to him only too be reconditioned and to hell with anyone other just ginning about, only for it to happen again not to mention that if Husaberg the company never got their act together to understand why the issue was happening :mad: well :furious:

I would say that the Husabergs were started off by people who were into making the best bikes you could, not just mundane mas produced 2ed rate stuff on the bike like the Japs do, not to mention the Jap bikes are reliable.
But I don't think that big company's people have the enthusiasm of what real riding is all about at the top end of riding ability's people and the been counter people take over and the sods rule the show and end up making bikes just for sods.

Well any road Husaberg has shown the world what a true riders bikes are all about and no one could disregard what the company achieved with such bikes.

well if you had it happen top your 2008 then none of them are any good because clearly it wasn't 'better'!

but if we are allowed to rebuild our bikes and put them together well then the 2002/2003 is still a lovely bike. it will take years but someone here might eventually have all the bits done to their 2001-2003 bike and maybe we'll see a few quotes of how powerful and raw these years were! I know that my 2003 is sweet!

the 2001-2003 650 chrome crank was really well made, the last year, tha half pork chop/half-360 crank was said to be poorly or cheaply made. personally, i have got on fine with them.

but when you have had to have major operations just to say it is OK then maybe we have to say that they were poorly produced or as i prefer; UNDERDEVELOPED.

on another note, i WOULDN'T EXPECT A PROTOTYPE TO BE MADE IN AUSTRIA ANY MORE THAN THE MASS-PRODDUCTION TO BE IN SWEDEN. if something is designed by a team in a place and all three share the same nationality; that will do me. it is designed in Sweden and built in Austria.

Taffy

Yes mine was built by one of Hitler mob.

I just think that with the 4inch piston being so big, that this must be heaver than the Jap 450cc pistons and this puts more stress on the crank, the crank maybe just as good as a Jap crank but harmonics can become a factor in all this as well.
Once orangeberg did the engine she rev out much more than it ever could before that. 3000RPM more easy.

The thing is I don't have to rev it that hard unless I have to.
On a Honda CRF450 I am on the limiter all the time and just shift up gear when the rev limiter cuts out because that what you have to do, the Yamaha WR450 is much the same with no torque at all compared to my 450 berg, she has heaps of torque, that the Jap 450 only feel like 250cc they nice and smooth and all and do go well.

I took it back to the dealer before it was 12 months up, saying hear now about how harsh it was when rev high, but the little South African bloke said it was fine and I took his word for it, well having experience now, I could tell the difference in no time flat if a crank will be hammering the mains as such as it will stick out like dogs balls to me and all.

Apart from that I have never had a problem with it and the only think I don't like is the left side kick start with knee braces on, be f ed if I can start it that way, only just put the first battery in it about a year ago.

I have 07 Fs550 and 08 Fe 450 and 0i Fe550 but still hunting for 07 oe 08 650. I'm collecting funds to do proper 650 rebuild into 700 by Travis that's going into my supermoto. Anyone interested in group buy of cp pistons 105mm?

Ha ha....good to see some spirit.

You are all partly wrong and partly right. At one stage Husaberg said they would not or maybe were not allowed to build two stokes.

The first bergs were much Husqvarna plans. The first bergs were light weight. You could use Husky tool kit. They were designed to fit a Dellorto carbi. They had timing adjusted by the crank and did not need the TIPS on the carbi. It was a design and assembly operation and quality was not consistent. The small motor heated the SEM and had very troublesome roller rockers. You could say they were the only real bergs as they were very very works light. The 2000 frame and some sorting of the motor may have been the best balance.

The 2008 450 Berg is more reliable than the legendary Honda XR 400. The motor weighs a ton though. The Khein carbi is fitted like old Jaguar cars were put together.

In summary....if you want a serious works Berg 2000 model. If you live in a hot climate go 2004. If you want XR reliablity but don't want to crash like XR riders get a 450 2008.

The slant motor had too high centre of gravity and should have been Berg light weight to work....not KTM heavy?

I reckon Taffy has a 2004?

dont you mean 2009 is heavy ?

2008 650 engine is 27kgs same weight as cr500 2 stroke

the 2008 450 is even lighter

generally a modern 450 engine is 30kg +

Hi Bushmechanic

What I mean is that my 92 fe350 was super light. I could pick it up off the ground. The 2008 fe450 is relatively light but a lot heavier than the 92 350. I can't lift the whole bike both wheels of the ground. The up to 93 motor was thinner than the 94 and later motors. It was light but you needed to check the gearbox, roller rockers and sem. I think there was something about the gear manufacturing that made them light also...sintered metal? Not sure. I think the bike was a real 106kg. I think the 2008 is 216kg.

I liked the feel of the 70 degree motor and it felt light when riding but when falling of and picking it up when tired not so much fun.

Not sure but I think the swedish husky guys were offered minor jobs in Italy when Cagiva bought them. Hence the deal for jobs kept in Sweden when KTM bought Husaberg. Seems hard to imagine but I believe KTM was about to on sell Berg after getting the technology when the Swedes pulled the sheet of the 2001 to 2008 designed motor? It was as I understand when more control started to be pulled to Austria so they could see what was going on?

My 2008 450 has been reliable. When I questioned Roland before buying about the bearing issue he said to take the cover off the ignition in the shop and pull the flywheel for play. Its not that much trouble you know. Don't buy the one with no play....if only the Austrians had asked. Although the play is not the whole issue of course.

Where is the extra weight coming from ? 1992 FE350 to a 2008 FE450, I can't see it being any more than 1 or 2kg at the most.
The swinging arm would weigh more on the first bergs for sure with the linkage system and the non linkage.
I thought that the 2008 450 was 103kg dry

I have found a 2008 fe450e at 109kg dry and 47.8hp
I have found a 1997 fe400e at 104.8kg dry.
It's maybe only the Battery and starter motor making the real difference.

To 2000 FE600 105.7KG and 55hp
1997 501e 109kg and 52hp

Yes the stock battery and starter motor and these can be taken off. The frame on the 2008 has lots of light stuff in bolts and steering head etc. The 08 does not have rear suspension linkage....but does have a heavier adr compliance stuff. I think the weight is in the motor in all the comfort stuff and reliability like starter motor and counter balancer.....steel cam sprocket ....heavier gears? The 92 cases were lighter and no oil pump or filter.....the pipe and muffler were thin metal and light ....the dell orto was light etc. Apart from just feeling light one riding buddy pointed out when I preloaded the suspension before a puddle of water the tyre tread disappeared just before the puddles......not so on the 08. The 92 had a habit of cracking piston tops...cracked suspension linkages....roller rocker bearing and sem ignition problems ....small end bushing lack of oil and wear.. fragile gearbox. ..front and rear sprocket not lining up or cutting into frame.....not so with the 08. 92 manual had direct phone number to Rolland....not so on the 08. Imagine phoning the Honda factory?

I remember Homer Simpson rang Japan about some washing powder called Mr Sparkle with a picture that looked like him on the front of the pack.
Japan Muschy muschy - Homer asking why he is Mr Sparkle.
Japan - you answer question 100% correct :giggle:
