I just booked a trip to Morocco to do some riding (1700 km’s, 1050 mls?) through the Atlas Mountains from Fez to Marrakech and now I feel like the luckiest guy on this planet. Of course I will take my Husaberg (’03 FE501E) with me! Somehow in Holland we manage to live without any deserts and mountains at all, so my experience in that sort of riding is basically zero. Do you guy’s have any tips & tricks on bike preparation outside the obvious? I’m looking for the best tires to use, road book holders, suspension setup, spare parts to pack etc. The terrain will be very rocky and some sand dunes. We will be driving certain stages of the Dakar. All help is welcome! (Needless to say I will be taking an extra SEM ignition with me…)

Probably one of the most important thing to remember is that in the desert you go FAST. You have to LOOK farther ahead. Learn to read the terrain and watch for the telltale signs like a few rocks in the sand to alert you that more may soon be there. Becareful of depth perception in the dunes. Try to ride behind somebody and key off them until you learn to read the terrain. Cross grain at speed can really surprise you. Carry plenty of fuel, water, tubes, air bottles, oil, chain breaker and masterlinks, maybe a tow rope.
GPS is another handy thing on an adventure. Garmin makes some real good ones and Trail tech makes some great mounts that are vibration proof. If you are really going to B. F .E. get a sat phone just incase.

Where did he get that desert tank is the question everybody would like to ask...
My advice is stand up as much as you can. You can't sit while going fast in the desert, I know, I paid the consequences. :?

Just those two items are almost brand new as force parts if you ake a look at www.husaberg.se

Since I only learned one language unlike most of the rest of the world that commands two or more, Could someone please tell me about the tanks in the links above. How large, do they fit 05's, approx. how much do they cost in US dollars? Any one tried one?
I find it funny that guys get on here from all over the world and apologize for their command of English when they in fact speak it as well if not better than me. I only know cuss words in Spanish. I am truly the Ugly American!

The info for the big tank is something like "New 15 liters tank for Husabergs from model 2000 to 2006, for the lovers of long distances"
Serbatoio means "tank".
€500 equals almost $600US
You get some 0.8 US bucks for one euro (€)
Liters -> gallons you have to figure out yourself :wink:
The info for the smaller tank says they are used by the 'berg WC teams and holds 7.2 liters. There also is a 2006 model of the smaller one.
I have seen a _small_ picture of it and it looks really good.

He doesna have a bashplate water tank, the water goes in the under seat tank.
BTW, The iritrack data is still available for this orpi maroc rally. 100% of the huseys finished! Can't say that about the orange brand even though they did well too.

Talked about this project with one of the guys being thanked on the site, Joel. BTW my local supplier of husey stuff.
They had cracked the poor little FE450 open after the race and if I remember correctly all they did after looking over things was replace all the "outer bearings" like sving arm, steering column (or what you call it in english) and so on. Joel almost didn't belive it
It says in the text that the aluminium tank was sold by a stockholm based Husa shop to Dubai and retrieved from there especially for this race.
