Um.. I have found this place helpful and friendly.. I am a Berg man and this place helps me when i need it...

Now if you can just tell me how to pull EPIC wheelies????

After 5 Bergs and hours on this site I must confess to changing brands and letting go of that need to be different. My YZ250 2T is ugly, boring & common but wow it's great to ride and its so nice to not have to pay $379.00 for a radiator hose (ok slight exaggeration but you get the message)...

Taffy has been great with information but seemed to have a tendency to drink and post....? Some epic fairly pointless arguments that just went on and on...love your work Taffy but jeezuz mate, cut back on the pints. Please keep your business going as I have all kinds of projects scheming away that will need parts.

The 70 degree bikes started the downfall the redressed KTMs will finish it. Sad but reality. I think people just got sick of "what slip on is best" posts.

I'm on here lots, but post little as i feel i dont have anything useful to add, maybe thats a bad thing for the site?

I think the site is in transition much like the brand, maybe for the worse maybe for the better who knows?

I guess it can go one of 2 ways ,
1. KTM kill the brand and we all join KTM talk
2. KTM kill the brand but we all stay put and keep these bikes running for t he next 50 years, safe in the knowledge that they are and always will be the bike to own, much like the bikes in my avatar.

I don't think that the site is particularly easy to use or read. Font size is small; a white background would help; better demarkation between posts; why is the thread title repeated in bold in every post? Embedding video and photos sucks (see a couple of posts above). Links take you away from the site instead of opening a new window. vBulletin seems way better.

If you want people to use the site, get rid of a few of these barriers.

I may be wrong, but I don't think taffy can make any of those changes to the site :)

Lurkers gonna Lurk results were 18 votes and 88 views after 24 hours. Thats a good ratio i think.
Thanks for participating. Now, after near two days, it's at 20 votes and 115 views.

What's it all mean? Idk, I just thought I'd try to get a sample of traffic. At least 10 of the 88 views were prolly either accidental clicks, or perhaps those wanting to see the results.(me for three views)

A title such as the lurker's gonna lurk one is only going to get traffic that is already here.

I was going to vote, but was indecisive on what category I would actually fit under...

Just my 2cents:

I bought a 09 FE450, early in 2009, love the bike BTW. I cruised around this site then and really didn't feel a lot of love toward the 70 degree engine, so I moved on. Looked around KTM talk, really didn't feel any love there!!! I was already a member of ADVrider, so that is where I ended up, with an occasional glance at the UH page.

Fast forward a few years until now, I was thinking of selling my 570, so I joined up here after looking around and seeing there was more love toward the 70 degree bikes than before. Actually now, I think I will keep my 570 as a D/S and keep racing my 09 450, and skip the new FE350 for now.

Good site after I looked around, but really don't have too much to say that may not have already been said on the technical side. I wonder if you put a little more emphasis on riding/racing discussions etc, might pull a little more traffic. just a thought.

Just putting in my 2 cents worth. I get on the site daily just to see what everyone is talking about and what's going on. Great site for information. I encourage customers to get on line here to get technical support because I know they can get it here. I don't post that often because I am terrible at typing and it takes a lot of time (bad excuse but the truth). Thanks to Schwim for all the work he does. As for KTM Talk I have NEVER been on the site. Haven't had the need.

For me I have been a member since 2005. The site was always very helpful and the owners Doc is the best of any site.
BUT for me there is one member on this site that I'm sure has the highest post count above everyone else; that has to voice what he thinks is knowledge on every subject as being the holy truth and if you question him you have to cover yourself with a tarp because the insults are going to come flying at you like a goose flying overhead. So why would I want to post.

ah dissappearing post again? i will respond to the dissappearing post by saying, thats a bit smelly to be mud.....you know what i mean.....invisible post man

I would also like to blame "that same high post count guy" for the following:
usa's poor economy, hurricane sandy, the melting polar ice caps, ugly girls everywhere, and for sending those missiles into israel yesterday (god bless those affected), i also hear he once slapped an elderly woman for no reason.

its a forum. people talk, you either listen or you dont, and who you listen to should be chosen wisely, if you chose to leave because you cant take some greif or critism at times so be it, "high post count guy" has taken greif too and guess who is still here for the most part helping people.

to say that one person is the cause of the sites declined popularity is crazy in my opinion..........

i personally have given poor advice on two occasions and was not flamed, nor have i been flamed for asking some probably stupid questions...

Just thought I'd pop in for a look......been a while :)

Bit suprised the main bearing threads not still active on the homepage

Ive always found this site to be more of a technical site instead of a social type forum.

If the majority of questions are already answered, then a search is all you need. Plus the doc has so many answers too.

Its not an unfriendly site, just seems a bit formal.

I also find the 'high post count guy' very helpful, and have read lots of his good advice passed on. De-cyphering some of his posts is fun too  what ya gotta remember is location and dialect, added with a pinch of sarcasm doesnt always come across the way it should, especially in written form

Last year October I bought an FE390, mainly because of the fantastic community here.

Don't have any problems with anyone. Don't have a long history here, one year of lurking and one year of posting.

Unfortunately I don't have a lot of problems with the bike, it is just as solid as a DRZ 400 S, but much better handling and power delivery.

But that may all change and this site will get a reincarnation: KTM is rebuilding the 70 degrees engine as their future MX engine. So many orange SX's will be driving around with our Husa miracle. Hope in a number of years that they also allow to mount the engine in a yellow or blue frame :D

Definately, as soon as the boys in Mattighofen start tuning this engine the number of posts / complaints / questions will explode  Don't worry :bounce3: I guarantee!

that guy in Oz who rallies - never said a dicky bird

got tired of the pissing matches
got tired of the rants
got tired fo the self proclaimed experts (no one in particular)
too busy developing and racing to spend time here

did 45,000km on 2007-2008 FE650's rally racing, had no issues so nothing to report

did 150,000km rally racing 2009-2012 FE450 & FE570, no real issues to report, did 2 big ends, 1 piston, head gaskets in early days (did report at length on this) and injectors in early days (remember we started the whole Canam fuel filter thing), also we developed with Safari tanks the 70degree long range tanks in early 2009, plus built & raced the first Dakar 70degree bikes etc etc.......lots of info on rally bike builds on team pages, look and ye shall find its all there

main thing we learnt was...............there are few issues with these bikes

Now look forward to my soon to arrive new FE501 :D

Hi there everyone,

I very much appreciate everyone taking the time to post their thoughts in the thread. I've looked at each grouping of complaints or observations and have come up with some proposals and requests to try to help those having a less than enjoyable time turn that frown upside down. Following the current trend of this thread, I would appreciate the continued constructive criticism concerning any proposals below.

Groupings:

1) Site is not accessible because of (X):

A very good example:

It's a shame that posts like this are written when stating why you don't visit the site. The forum has a category specificially for people that are having issues using the site. I'm best equipped to handle this type of issue. If I'm made aware of it, I can either change something to help or explain how you can work around your issue.

For instance:

Font is too small: There is a link at the upper right of every forum page that allows you to enlarge all text. Alternatively, you can use CTRL + on your keyboard to enlarge any text on the site.

Image and video embedding sucks: Image embedding was improved a couple hours after the post was made. Video embedding is not lacking. The video mentioned in the post is restricted by the Publisher of the music embedded in the video file. The RIAA is trolling you and no amount of embedding options will stop that.

Links don't go to new tab: Issue was resolved(for any future posts) a couple hours after the post was made.

My point here being that I do try to make sure that I fix any issues that effect site accessiblility if I'm able. I just need those with issues to make me aware of them before making a post explaining why they don't visit the site.

2) ANGRY!

As the site has slowed down in regards to activity, some of the site's moderators have retired and some others don't get to visit as often as they used to. Due to the fact that we no longer have enough moderators to cover the site during the majority of the day, I've begun monitoring the thread content again and will intervene in the event that posts fall clearly into abusive, trolling or degrading content. Anyone with issues concerning post content is welcome to let me know via private message and I will do what I can to help.

Another option available to the community is a post & user rating system. Users would be able to rate posts other users. It's a crowd-sourced method of moderating. If a post gets too many negative votes, it will be hidden from view. Users would also have some form of weighting the content posted by seeing the poster's reputation. I'm not endorsing this system, but wanted to let everyone know that it can be done if the popular vote wanted it.

That's really the only two groupings that I can have any influence over on the site. I would very much like to hear your thoughts in these matters.

Thanks!
