cyphers general ramblings

the events in that area usually spring up a few surprises such as rockwell on the 390 coming second, hes a really good rider but cant see him finishing as high as that again. He was a real good MX'er and the diss event do tend to favour them a bit more than others.

jon hinam on the 300 and Si wakely on the 250 on the other hand i'd expect them to improve at the more traditional enduro rounds.

rode the breckland - which was the 2 day british round run by the same club in the same are - a couple of times and i never thought that riding around a flat part of the country could be so tireing.

RIGHT THATS IT!!

i'm not entering another event until i get fitter and loose some weight.

rode the first round of the GBXC today. course was pretty straight forward if you were on the pegs and riding properly.

1st lap went well, 2nd & 3rd better, 4th lap i found myself looking more at the scenery than the riding with the inevitable results.

found that i was catching people on the off-road but they'd pass me back on the dirt road sections as i just wasnt into caning the bike down the road.

Astrisk braces did what they were meant to when i got cross rutted :D.

Unfortuantly on my 5th (i think ) i landed cross rutted from a jump and got spat off, at this point i realised that my wrist brace doesnt do any good when its sat in my kit bag in the van :( and having lost interest and being close to the start i called it a day, if i'd have been further from the start and had to have ridden back i'd of propbably kept going, but there we are.

another thing thats happened at the last couple of events as well, loss of concentration and interest, hopefully if i get fitter it will come back but at the moment think i'll stick to helping out at events

Ps- To top the day off when i got back to the van i realised that i'd locked my keys inside. luckily 30 seconds with a borrowed screw driver and i was in with no damage - think i might have to upgrade the van security though.

ta ta for now

good bit of footage there cypher.
thanks for sharing that.
looks good riding terrain & good dust free conditions. 8)
i could almost see myself riding that track....but not with those blokes. :D
cheers ..weed..

weird country over there, rolling grass hills with no trees
has it all been logged out, or was it always like that?
theres no reason why you couldn't ride a 650 around that track and not be competitive.
was there any 650's there?
i've ridden much tighter nitty grittier sheit than that on my old ****.
its only a pain when you are back to first gear over rough terrain, like in creek beds, where it gets a handfull.
a slight blip of the throttle, can make it difficult to hang on to,as well as sapping energy reserves.
that said,i recon i could easily smoke the bloke on the 250 8) ,but it might be a case of the hare & tortoise :D
pony express is always good for an old fart that can't last. :) it gives a bloke time to cool down, have a quick ciger before the next quick sprint. :)

nope thats just how the upland areas around here are. That area backs onto a couple of forests.
Was a pretty easy course if you were up on the pegs but there were a few bits that were a bit snotty if you weren't.
There were a couple big bikes xr650 and the like being ridden

Out today setting up for an event in the Nant-y-moch area of west wales, event is running on the saturday rather than the sunday which is mothers day.

Quite wet and snotty in places.

noticed all the local boys had seat hump and i'd also installed my.

Well they really do work.

up snotty rutted climbs it kept me from sliding to far back just as it was meant to. going to get one for my low seat as well now.

here's a couple of vids from last years event that shows some of what we marked out today. Only differnece today was the driving wind and rain.

helped out yesterday, Sunday 11th, at the Aberystwyth & Distric mcc 'Mountain top enduro' as they were short of staff.

first real mud and ruts riding i've done on the 300.

Compared to the 450 i'm finding the 300 alot better in the mud and ruts simply because its lighter, still got to get used to the handling though as its a bit more flighty than the 450.

the area had a week of rain before the event so everyone was expecting a tough slog. No. of Laps were 2,3,4 for the respective classes, but after the 1st lap there seemed to be an awful lot less bikes coming around.

apart from a couple of places the course actually got better as the day went on and the couple of snotty places i was tasked with keeping an eye on, whilst looking like impassible mud pits actually rode ok.

managed to wash the worst off of the bike today, monday 12th, but were getting hit by gales at the moment so strong that one gust tipped the bike over from leaning on the side stand, luckily i managed to catch it and then promptly finished off and put it away.

anyway off it FR4 tomorrow.

Dale just sent me the DVDs a couple of days ago. I'm going to try and edit them in to "memorable moments" and post up on here.

Check out here for some photos by alan rogers

gotta be logged into face book to see them properly.

mmmmm.

2008 crf250 or 2008 yzf250 just for something different to play with

chatting to the LBS today and he mentioned that my old '09 450 had been in and he'd rebuilt the engine, nothing had gone wrong just a precaution.

he was very complimentary of the engine saying that apart from putting in a piston and conrod just to be on the safe side - which the owner wanted - everything else inside the engine was perfect. He said the gearbox especially was immaculate.

engine now has well over 300+ hrs on it.

Did a 53 mile little trailride around the Rhayader / llandrindod wells area last thursday with one of the boyos from my team, they've all got road bikes and i'm slowly turning some of them to the muddy side as well.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

had our clubs customary pre-christmas ride out today. Was hoping to take my phone for some photos but decided not to as it would have been wrecked

which for the first 3 hours consisted of;
logs, cambers, bogs and fallen trees.
cambers with bogs
cambers with logs
cambers with fallen trees.
cambers with bogs and logs
cambers with bogs, logs and fallen trees...need i go on think you get the idea.

Havent done any riding like that for a long time and should have known what was coming when i turned up in the farm yard to see that 8 of a group of 10 were expert and above class riders, who like going into the hardest parts of the wood, though to be fair for most of the ride we were lost and only had a vague idea of where we were.

Going was so tough that bike boiled 3 times, once whilst i was actually going at a decent pace, though the hot water hitting me in the face was quite nice on a day where the rain just hasn't stopped.

Knee popped out and back in dabbing as i went over a fallen tree, glad i kept going as it feels fine now, if i'd stopped it probably would have seized up a bit.

Mine wasnt the only bike to boil over before anyone says it was my **** riding. think some samco hoses and remove the thermostat is in order before doing anything like that again. topped up with half a litre using a stream and a plastic bottle i found.

Then when things did get easier i caught the chain on a stump which snapped the chain, luckily i had a spare split-link.

Even though it was one of the hardest rides ive done for a while gotta say it was enjoyable

And as an added bonus i used that many calories i can have double christmas dinner if i want
