Cycra Pro Bend Solution Mount: could be better...!!!

I have to admit that the solution mount thing cleans up the cluster of cables, especially on a dual sported bike, BUT... it is not very solid, Mr Cycra!

I had a very little washup in the sand, I did not even stall and left right away, except the handguard was point way up. I could not bend it back, as hard as I tried. And that was not really good, because my clutch lever (yes, the new one) was left exposed for the rest of the ride.

Well tonight I tried to readjust the handguard and realized that the horizontal bar in the middle is badly bent upward at the tip where the handguard is attached.

I managed to adjust it by loosening the 2 x 4 bolts that attach the U clamps to the bar, and rotating the clamps forward, one side (the one by the bent tip) a bit more forward.

Aluminum may be easier to billet but in this instance, it is obviously not strong enough to sustain torsion from the steel handguard mount. Whatever method they used to manufacture the steel handguard mounts, they need to use it for that middle bar.

I will post photos, to illustrate my point.

The Cycra ProBend are very solid already. The solution mount is something that you add to them to prevent kinks in your clutch and brake lines, so that they don't get ripped off if you fell. What I am saying is that they need to make that one part more solution, because aluminum bends a lot easier than steel and what it does is create a weak point.

I would say it is a good product, but definitely not an A, more like a C+.

They're not solid compared to the Barkbusters Azza was talking about.
The Barkbusters have an aluminium brace about the same size as in your photo but they run it completely from the inside bar mount thru the hand guards and then the other side mounts into the bar end.
You can make them move but I haven't bent or busted them yet - and I have tried!!

I think I may have over tightened the clamps, but if I had not done so, the solution mount system would not have fitted properly. It's a bit tricky to put and it is supposed to take full shape only when all the bolts are fully torqued.

Well, send some photos of your Barkbusters system from down under or at least post a URL and we'll be glad to check them out!

I have bent mine, in a unique freestyle trailriding manouver I like to call the 'downhill front wheel rut frontflip' - not real gracefull.

Better bend it than break your clutch or front brake lever...

As usual most of that type of damage should be avoided if you do not tighten the bolts too much, but it's not always obvious what is too much, what is not enough.

Thanks. I am going to keep the system for a while.

Now I understand the issue a bit more. The logo is written in such a manner that you would want to put the bar clamps with the U shape as a "u", and not an "n". I looked at the documentation and it shows indeed that you are advised to do that. I went by the photos on the Cycra site, which show the clamps mounted in a "u" configuration.

If you put it upside-down (Cycra logo upside-down I mean), then you should be able to loosen the 2 x 4 bolts on the clamps, thus allowing the clamps to rotate in case of a crash (what you are supposed to do with your master cylinders bolts, so that the levers rotate and not brake).

If you do otherwise, then you would do what I did, which was to over tighten, thinking that the horizontal aluminum bar would flex (as described in their blurb) and wobble and absorb the energy from the shock this way, when it does it by bending out of shape.

So if you have this product already installed, I would follow this advice. Nobody cares about the direction of the logos on the clamps, since they are hidden by the number plate.
 
This might help. I had them the other way and they were way too high.
I even flipped the solution bar.
