I notice the crank stop bolt has a plain "thread rolled" end on it. Is it meant to just push up against the crank at any location? On my prevoius bike (KTM RFS), the crank stop bolt was pointed and engaged in a v groove in the crank wheel. On a Husaberg does one just find TDC and then screw the bolt up against the crank? Is there a flat on the crank wheel to index the crank to TDC?

The 07 550E has a groove across the face of the crank wheel. It looks to be about a 6mm groove. Very easy to see looking in the crank bolt hole. In the 07 Engine Repair manual pg D4 the groove is visible. There is also a round hole above the crank pin that is not used for TDC locating.
