what's the latest on this?

friend of mine has gone to purchase the "double bearing" only to be told that even on the latest bikes they are single row and not to bother!

just wondered what is fitted but mostly: what is done...?

So what has changed with the bearing on the latest bikes? I'm sure there must be a difference in spec. Does anyone know?

Being as I am......I would either remove the bearing completely or run the double balancer, particularly on a large displacement engine.

I´ve just ordered a new counter balancer, which incorporates a one piece bearing with double ball races. I believe "Duplex" is the correct word for that type of bearing. I´ll get back to you guys with proof once I´ve opened the box.

He is right, it is a single bearing with two ball races.

Give it up to Dr_C the new bearing is indeed a one piece brng & is sold only
with balancer!

i would think there is a very good reason for that balancer 'having' to be sold with the bearing. it's really good to know that we have an "ultimate" cure!

it's already in the doc!

I just got the "christmas gift" so I can confirm that it is really a one piece bearing with 2 ball races. The bearings outer race facilitates an external ring to keep the bearing locked into axial position. Then a larger ring has been pressed between the bearing and the balancer. The ring is welded together with the balancer. So from that design it seems "impossible" to replace just the bearing. The whole counterbalancer (including bearing) comes as an inseparable kit. The balancer also comes with a "knife" edge to minimize the air/oil resistance. Nice not having to grind that yourself with the evident risk of getting dirt in the bearing.

Merry Christmas everyone!

I´ve uploaded some pics in my gallery (Dr_C), but I don´t know how to insert a link in a message  From the close-up you see the welded ring.

Lemme help.

Just curious, is that weld actually holding the gear on and not tne bearing? I've have not seen too many bearings that could take the heat welding that close.

Good point, Buckwheat! I think you are right. Maybe there are nothing other than the press-fit holding the bearing in place.

hey guys,

looking at that picture, it really doesn't look like the bearing is welded - the outer race finishes well before that welded seem. That seem is also almost the same as all the other c/b assemblies since 01.

I'm open to being corrected of course...

Cheers,
Simon

Hi Simon! The weld is between the gears and the balancer. What I think Buckwheat meant, was that it would be too close to the bearings outer race if being welded with the bearing mounted.

this fits the 2002 FE400 too? Can anyone give me a link to order it?

Be careful!!! 2002 was the transistion year where the gear teeth pitch was changed. '01 and early '02 can't use the newest c'balancer without changing a bunch of other stuff. I have an early '02 that has the older pitch. If your lucky, your 2002 will be the later version.
